Unique, Compelling, Perfect Reader!

I loved this creative, dystopian, but not terribly far fetched in my opinion, imagining of what future technology might allow men to create - dolls to serve as fantasy submissive worshipful sex appliances to keep around the house like a Roomba! In the effort to make them ultra realistic and able to make their owners feel interesting, important, smart, superior… they may have given the dolls a bit too much AI. I listened to the book on a road trip with a woman friend. Not sure if my human husband would have enjoyed it quite as much we did. It’s wickedly accurate in many ways!

Interesting, but a little contrived

This was a really interesting and engaging read. I particularly liked, even though it’s about a sexbot, it’s pretty chaste in its content. However, the messaging feels a bit forced and obvious at times.

Below Average Story

The general plot of the book is average at best. The performance is incredible. There are a few events as a transitions but on the whole it becomes hard to attach yourself to the main character.

Wish the book was closer to publishers summary

Started out very simple and intriguing - a thoughtful sexbot lives in a husband and wife's top floor. The sexbot is only there to please the husband and has a list of rules, the hierarchies, that she can not break - which includes not hurting humans and putting human needs/wants before her own. She is locked in the room and only the husband interacts with her and the wife knows OF the bot but doesn't love the fact that she's there.

SLIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD

The book then has the sexbot going back to a factory to get reset, going to a brothel where she makes a BFF and learns how to stitch cloth. And she ends up a few more places. So the book just completely derailed for me.

The husband and wife, who took up the first third of the book, have no significance on the plot. And the hierarchies were used in a BARELY interesting and predictable way. There's no deeper symbolism or frankenstein myth here. The book is written from the viewpoint of the sexbot but her thinking was along the lines of - "oh, this place is gross and dreary but I don't mind because my programming has me not care about this" or "am i supposed to be stuck in this room like a vacuum?” ... but she was programmed to pretty much do JUST that when she's not doing sex things.

If the plot intrigues you, definitely check it out. I don't HATE that I listened to it, I was just expecting something less disjointed with more meaning.

Unique view of a possible future.

This was a very interesting fictional account of a possible future, brought to superb life by a very talented narrator.

The thinking man’s sci-fi novel

Writing and story should make this a must read classic. Writing is entertaining while being profound. The kind of book that changes how we look at life and ourselves. In a way it reminded me of “Handmaiden’s Tale”. Perfect reader.

Intriguing but Somber

The audiobook is an engaging story that keeps you interested with its unique ideas and solid narration. However, the tone is quite somber. Having just finished the "Three-Body Problem" trilogy, I was looking for something lighter, and this book didn't provide that. While it's a good read, it's more reflective and somewhat sad, so consider picking it up when you're in the mood for a serious, thought-provoking story.

Beautiful writing

Some truly beautiful writing, especially in the first part in describing the feeling of being an AI or a woman or alive.

Very Predictable

I struggles to finish this book due to its predictability. The story is not particularly original and the characters aren't captivating.
