He rejected me for “reasons”. Too bad for him. No take-backs.

Rosie

Fate made a huge mistake when she mated me to Cadoc Collins. He’s the heir apparent. I’m a scavenger. My people are so low in this pack, we don’t even rank.

I should have known better, but for one night, I let myself forget the facts of life in Moon Lake. Cadoc Collins might be powerless to resist me, but he’s not going to claim me, either.

A pink line on a stick makes it a much bigger problem than my bruised heart.

I’m 18, knocked up, and publicly rejected by the future alpha. And this baby in my belly? It might as well be a target on my back.

Lucky for me I’m a scavenger. My kind are good at finding things, but we’re great at getting lost.

Cadoc

The fate of Moon Lake rests on my shoulders. I can’t claim the scavenger female.

The pack is on the verge of a revolt, and a mating so controversial could push our warring factions into open conflict.

All I need is time. I’ll do what’s expected of me as our future leader, and when the politics are sorted, I’ll do right by the odd little scavenger.

I’m the heir apparent. She’ll be there when I’m ready.

Right?

The Heir Apparent’s Rejected Mate is a wolf-shifter romance. No cheating. HEA guaranteed. Intended for adult listeners only.

I thought the book started out slower than I like but as the story went on, it became interesting

I loved this story! I really was taken on an adventure with Rosie. I was easily able to empathize with her on all things as I got to know her. While her life is tough it is a good one. My favorite part of is when Mr Collins shows up at her trailer after a talking down by the witch. I really grew to like him at that point.

There are quite a few secondary characters and I really enjoyed them all. Some we know from the previous book and others are new. This could be listened to as a stand alone easily but the first book is just as good as I would grab that one first.

Narration is done by Silas Hart and Elle Sonall. Both are new to me and I really enjoyed their vocals for these characters.

I truly enjoyed this slow burning YA shifter romance. The pack dynamics and the drama between the different fractions were interesting.

It was fascinating to understand the scavenger way of living with Rosie’s POV. My heart ached for Cadoc. He was burdened with responsibility and politics from birth. Their fated mating was a surprise for both of them. I was glad that they could overcome all of the obstacles cause by others’ expectations and pressure.

The narration was excellent resulting an enjoyable listening experience.

Cadoc Collins is a alpha in training his father is sick
and is dying but his reign as Alpha can end even before it begins if he is challenged. Rosie has never felt like she belonged with the different packs and how they are treated but when she js rejected after she is pregnant she runs and he comes for her. This is about these young people growing up and making decisions that affects lots of people that will affect lots of lives . Great performance from Silas and Elle on bringing these characters to life.

I'm a huge sucker for rejected mate books and this one is up there as one of my favorites. It combines both my love of rejected mate books, and my love of new adult and academy books. In this one Cadoc and Rosie couldn't be more different - they are in the same pack, and the same school, but are also worlds apart. Cadoc is to be the next alpha and is a part of the elite in the pack. Rosie is a scavenger, so low in the pack as to not even rank. Their mating is a political nightmare for Cadoc, so he publicly rejects her. In Cadoc, we see his fight for his bond to Rosie, but also how it directly conflicts with what he was raised to believe around sacrifice for the pack. The angst in this one as we follow along on Rosie's journey is exactly the kind of angst I love. At the beginning of the story, it appears that she is not strong, but in reality she is incredibly strong in conviction and doing what needs to be done, This had exactly what I love in a rejected mate book, with a jealous, protective alpha who makes some colossal mistakes along the way to figuring out his Happy Ever After, but we also get to see him grow and develop and do better. Cate C Wells has definitely hit it out of the park with The Heir Apparent's Rejected Mate.

The narration for this one was stellar. I loved both of their voices and thought they worked perfectly for this and in fact intend to look for more books that fit what I like to read that both have narrated. I loved listening to this, and it didn't matter that I had read it before. Definitely if you are a fan of shifters, fated mates, rejected mates and angsty romance with a great Happy Ever After, pick this up and give it a listen!

Loved this - both the story and the narration!

3.5 Stars ⭐️Cadoc is the heir apparent and Rosie is a scavenger, so they were in different social classes. He rejected Rosie, but he still tried to protect and care for her, somewhat. Then Rosie became pregnant and things became more interesting. Cadoc did grovel Rosie, but he was too weak politically with his pack. I really liked Rosie’s character. However, it was too long. Specifically in the beginning, but once I got to the last 40%, the pacing picked up. I did like how it ended.

The first book in this series The Tyrant Alpha was so basic that I almost didn’t continue. It had all the bad romance tropes - body betrayal syndrome, weak woman syndrome, dumb dude disease.

This book was completely different. It was a strong critique of the politics of wealth and socioeconomic disparity. No, I’m not joking.

I really enjoyed the first half. It was deep and descriptive. There was absolutely no romance, but that was the exciting part. The mmc (Cadoc) was the Alpha heir apparent and a “nob” what pack call the elites who have managed to suppress their inner beast in favour of wealth, culture, and civility. The mfc (Rosie) was a “scavenger” or the lowest caste, what we would call the homeless, or the transient, or the untouchables. These two weren’t just an unlikely couple, they were almost a different species. And that is a VERY strong setup to say the least.

But I think the book was almost too realistic. The characters’ differences were a bridge too far. And just like real life the author didn’t narrow the gap. It was very frustrating. Because when it’s all said and done, there’s supposed to be a fantastical element to romance. An X factor, a pull between 2 people that’s more supernatural than rational. Instead this author used poetic prose, abstract statements, and half finished thoughts to stall because she got in too deep. She didn’t have the answers. I mean, we THE HUMAN RACE haven’t solved the problem of haves and have nots. Her love story was based on a very real modern crisis.

She should’ve let Rosie and Cadoc do what all star-crossed lovers have done, in all literature, across all time: damn the consequences. Fall into each other with passion, and honesty, and a respect that transcends society. Instead, she kept them in their little boxes, barely interacting for most of the book, and never truly understanding each other. To say it killed all love is an understatement. But I enjoyed the book in spite of this. And I really respected the intelligence of the story.

From a romance perspective... ummm... well you be the judge: the first romantic declaration of the entire book came around the 11hr and 50min mark. That's a hell of a long wait. The first truly consensual sex came after that - I don’t count heat. The unity of the MCs in the last hour was awesome but the whole book should’ve been the last hour.
