CrossFit trainer Ben Bergeron has helped build the world's fittest athletes, but he's not like other coaches. He believes that greatness is not for the elite few; that winning is a result, not a goal; and that character, not talent, is what makes a true champion. His powerful philosophy can help anyone excel at all aspects of life. Using the dramatic competition between the top contenders at the 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games® as a background, Ben explores the step-by-step process of achieving excellence and the unique set of positive character traits necessary for leveling up to world-class. The mindset and methodology that have produced some of the greatest athletes in the world's most grueling sport can work equally well for golfers, lawyers, artists, entrepreneurs - anyone who's willing to commit totally to becoming better than the best.

True toughness involves far more than what most of us believe and has far greater influence on our success and fulfillment than we imagine. Toughness is defined by four interdependent elements: Character - who are you and are you secure in your identity? Capability - what are you able to do? Capacity - what are you able to withstand? And commitment - what are you willing to do? Being truly tough is a genuine command over ourselves and an ever-increasing mastery of the mental, emotional, and physical elements that define us and determine the course of our lives.

Resumen del Editor
The legendary six-time CrossFit Games champion and Olympic athlete shares lessons from her inspiring story of leveling up her performance, embracing failure, and fiercely taking on impossible goals.
“Champions are built in the mind first, and Tia Toomey understands exactly how to do that.”—Andy Frisella, entrepreneur, creator of 75 Hard and Real AF podcast
Tia Toomey, the world’s fittest woman, has won the CrossFit Games an incredible six years in a row and is undeniably a true warrior. She has also trained for the Winter Olympics in bobsledding, competed in the Summer Olympics in weightlifting, and was a Commonwealth Games gold medalist. She is, in short, one of the most accomplished and dominant athletes in human history.
But for Tia physical fitness is only a small part of overall strength. More important is building mental toughness.
In The Heart Is the Strongest Muscle, Tia shows how she reached elite levels by focusing on her “why.” By always having a clear picture of her purpose—what drives her heart—she can push through even the toughest challenges. From the early days of her fitness journey to the peak performance that has put her atop the podium in the CrossFit Games, Tia also reveals the secrets, struggles, and successes that have made her a killer competitor.
Nothing comes easy, but in The Heart Is the Strongest Muscle, Tia hopes to show you how to build your own unstoppable mindset. Whether you are already a serious athlete or someone looking to conquer a new challenge, you’ll be able to use her methods to keep winning.
Reseñas de la Crítica
“Tia Toomey is one of the greatest athletes in the history of sports. You don’t become that without a bulletproof mindset. Champions are built in the mind first, and Tia understands exactly how to do that.”—Andy Frisella, entrepreneur, creator of 75 Hard and Real AF podcast
“Tia Toomey knows that being a fierce competitor is about more than just the body. Her wisdom in this book will help keep your mind sharp and heart full.”—Michael Easter, author of The Comfort Crisis and Scarcity Brain
“I have been honored to closely follow the journey and success of Tia Toomey as a high-level CrossFit athlete. But more impressive has been following her development and journey as a person. This book gives a wonderful glimpse into all aspects of her amazing journey.”—Dave Castro, director and programmer of the CrossFit Games

Great read of heartfelt wisdom!
"The Heart is the Strongest Muscle" regenerates a refreshing perspective on life's chaos, encouraging readers to delve into their purpose. This no-nonsense approach, akin to a genuine chat with a best friend, resonates deeply. The book's reminder that our heart, determination, and mindfulness are our greatest strengths is both comforting and empowering. Tia-Clair Toomey's genuine care for readers and her humbleness is evident throughout the book, adding an inspiring touch. I hope this impactful read reaches each and every person who picks up this title, sparking a meaningful journey of self-discovery and connection with the why.

Great insight and candor.
Well said Tia! At the end of the day natural talent takes you only so far, hard work and sacrifice is imperative to the be the best. She doesn’t sugarcoat it, just honestly breaks down what it takes for her to be the best and stay the best. Well written and read by the author.

Motivation I needed
Most of the training disciplines discussed aren’t new, but valuable hearing it self narrated from the GOAT herself and a needed reminder for me to stay motivated

Admirable

It was good
It was good. Not great. Would’ve liked more focus on mindset and determination than bits of it with achievements. But I am a Tia fan so it was entertaining.

Reads like a high school essay
If you’re looking for depth, an underdog story, and/or insights into the challenges of motherhood for a pro athlete, this is not your book.
There is no doubt this is the book for you if you are absolutely obsessed with CrossFit training. While her achievements are notable, Toomey seems very one dimensional. She quotes a few well known authors’ principals, things you’ve most likely heard before, but it just seemed like a requirement for her to do so, like practicing citations in English 101.

A Strong Woman's Story but...
I've always been fascinated by Tia and her tremendous success in the crossfit world. She is an extraordinary athlete with a determination that is mind-blowing.
I was delighted to hear that she had her memoir out and I dove in to learn about her and gain some insight into what drives her to compete again and again at the pinnacle of success in a hugely competitive arena. I did not find such insight in this book.
She is at the top of her game so perhaps there is no room for revelation or realness. Many of the chapters sounded canned and her monotonous reading took away from the content.
Tia wants to win at all times and so there is no room to admit any human foibles or failures. Up, Up, Up and quite over the top it all seems but, I don't fault her. It's a lens and we are observers.
I would like to read a Tia book 10-15 years from now as I suspect hindsight would give her the humility and wisdom to share her journey with more prescience.
This book didn't give me the Tia I've grown to admire and respect.
