Mikhail isn't greedy, no! He's simply thrifty, practical. And he cannot fathom how anyone can leave trophies behind on the battlefield. No way does that mean he's stealing them! And of course Mikhail isn't a slave master! Although those who he corralled into signing service contracts might not agree.
The earth mages, for example, who are still busy erecting all sorts of structures toward the successful development of Mikhail's county. They work in three shifts with no days off.
Meanwhile, Mikhail continues to attract the notice of the emperor, who has even invited him to the capital for a reception. But is that a good thing? And how will the other aristocrats feel about it?

Earlier in the series, we were regularly given concrete updates on his growth — tier changes, clear milestones, and a sense of where he stood in the broader power structure. In this book, that clarity is largely missing. We hear about his source, the runic chains on his body, and the various custom modifications he’s made, but it’s all presented without context for what it actually means in terms of advancement.
What made this more noticeable is that we do get explicit information about other characters tiering up — just not the main character. That left me wondering: is he actively progressing? Is he stalled? Is he close to another breakthrough? The most we get are brief references to him “working on his source,” without any sense of where that places him in the grand scheme of things.
He’s clearly powerful, and the story itself remains enjoyable, but without defined progression markers, it’s harder to feel the satisfaction of growth that originally drew me to the series. I don’t need constant stat sheets, but I do want to understand where the main character stands and what forward motion looks like.
The narration was solid and consistent, continuing to do a good job supporting the story.
Enjoyable, But Progress Feels Unclear
