Another brilliant book

This mystery kept me guessing right to the end. I've guessed the killers in all previous books in the series until now. I loved how layered this one was. And the character growth we see in this book is 🔥. Is book 9 ready yet?! 😅

Finished in 2 days and now I’ll wait another 2 years for the next.

As per usual, I’m impressed with the voice actor and I think this might be my new favorite Cormoran Strike book. Realistic.

Under all is the writing

Yes, I needed a roadmap for this maze of a mystery with its multiple characters. But oh how I enjoyed being in the company of Strike and Robin. I feel sure on the page I could’ve looked back, made notes, written out a few minor characters names but, with all that said, this was a very satisfying story. I listened to the last hour twice. As I said, great writing.

So Wonderfully Complicated

Thanks. What I loved about this book: so many plots! Only a genius writer would dare throw so many balls into the air and keep juggling them successfully. Great addition to the series: surprise humor, and depth - a certain overarching consciousness of the razor's edge between tragedy and comedy. Strike and Robin are truly challenged intellectually and emotionally by the various mysteries in the cases they have taken on. There are plenty of moments when they don't know what is happening and we need to pay very close attention to make sense of it all. Many characters from earlier books pop in, with Strike's memories adding context. A few of the reviewers have been critical of certain aspects of the lead characters - i would ask them to remember what the leads have been through in the previous book and early in this one. Lastly, hurrah for the narrator: performance is sheer pure perfection.

I laughed, i cried, i threw the book after it was over and picked it back up and mourned the fact that ill only have two more books to read for the first time. (I always read the book first, then listen to the amazing Robert Glenister) Luckily, i can add this audiobook is into my rotation of repeats. This case was one of the best yet and i love being in the company of my favorite characters and of course yelling at Robin and Strike to GET IT TOGETHER ALREADY. But i love every second of it.

Aaaahhhh (again)

Love these books -- the two protagonists are absolutely fantastic, and I adore many of the side characters. My main issue with this book is actually the main mystery -- I found this one a little hard to follow and sympathize with the many, many people involved, and I'm frustrated by feeling a little like a cat and a laser toy regarding the main plot's being dragged out, but otherwise, amazing character development and really beautiful writing! A few of the chapters (avoiding spoilers: chapter where Strike gets a lawyer and the last chapter) made me squeak, which doesn't happen often. And bravo to the absolutely incredible reader, who never misses an emotional beat!!

I dunno... Why was everyone so whiny in this? I felt like slapping every last one of them. Especially Robin and except Sam.

The mystery is amazing

I just love the world that is built. The only issue was that Robin has been through so much, she is so strong and although she had gone through something so horrific and extraordinary. She still came out stronger and better, so my issue really is even through this. she reverted back to her, pour me persona, and that broke my heart because she was such a strong woman and continued each book to become stronger and stronger. It was frustrating that that codependency that she had with her husband now is carrying over, although I did absolutely love the end and now I need to know when the next book comes out. Please, Please, Please don’t put Comeran in another crappy relationship or love triangle. These characters need to grow not rehash old story lines.

Masterful in every way

Reader, language, story, characters all combine to create a near perfect mystery. I listened to the whole thing in just two days. Just could not stop.

convoluted story. likable characters. very nice ending with cliffhanger. can't wait for the next one.
