Resumen del Editor

Poker has become a global phenomenon in recent years, and more and more people are getting involved, having fun, and sometimes winning big money playing.

But what is it that makes one poker player successful time and time again while another poker player never makes that big score? Why is it that the same group of top poker players keep turning up on final tables? What is it that lets some pro players win multiple WSOP bracelets in their career while others struggle to barely make the cash?

The truth is that there are several habits that the best poker players have, and these habits make all the difference between winning and losing. The top players in the world have each developed these habits in their own way and use them to dominate any poker table they find themselves playing on.

The good news is that any player can learn these habits, and doing so will give you a much more effective understanding of the game, as well as a decided advantage over your opponents, both of which will help you show better results on the felt.

Poker is a dynamic game, and to be successful, you have to constantly be improving and refining your game, your playing style, and your habits. You need to understand poker math, bluffing, general poker strategy, the differences between Texas Holdem poker and PLO, poker tournament strategy, poker odds in cash games, and reading poker tells.

This poker book was created so that you can take the next step in your evolution as a player.

Bought for my nephew

He said it was a good guide that both the beginner and the more advanced player should find useful in improving their game. Covers strategy, math, and understanding your opponent's mindset at the table.

A Good Listen For Reinforcing Poker Skills

I like this audiobook and I think it would work well for any level of player simply because if someone is even reading or listening to it, they would most likely already have some basic knowledge of the game. There is quite a lot packed into a pretty short book so there's a lot of information being given.

I've listened to other poker audiobooks and I like to play while I listen because it makes me go out of my comfort zone a little and I find myself winning more often.

For a game involving making multiple decisions based on only some of the information, this book will give you enough info on how to be a more skilled player. I liked the part about tells and also tilt. It was kinda funny.

Overall The Habits of Winning Poker Players written by Ashton Cartwright was a good listen. The narration by Joshua Risser was excellent. He sounded as if he could've been the author.

I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my own request, and voluntarily leave this review.

A great guide not for beginners

The Habits of Winning Poker Players is not a book for beginners. It drops you straight into technical terms for parts of the game - the bind, flop, turn river etc. If you don't know these terms then this book will not be kind to you. Go for a 'hold to play' book instead.

I am one of those casual players that this book tells you to look out for. To aim at, because they are easy marks for you to take. I play sometimes, fairly casually, and never high stakes. I know the terms, I know how to play, but not really how to play a great game. I possibly know just enough to be a danger to myself. Maybe this book will fix that.

The book focuses on a few key things to help you improve you changes of winning, including:
- returns vs risk probability (knowing how likely it is that should you play that the cards will favour you)
- being too eager to play, or folding too often
- spotting opponents who are too eager and playing off that
- bluffing, knowing when someone is bluffing, and common ticks to control

The rules and guides are simple, but implementing them is the difficult part. It will take time and self control to learn them and get them ingrained in what you do.

The book mostly works as an audiobook. There are times when they list out card combinations which it would be better (for me at least) if it was written down or visual. Your mileage may vary.

Narration by Joshua Risser is good. Clear, easy to follow and engaging with the topic. Happy with his work and more than happy to listen to other books narrated by him.
