Perfect for fans of the Warriors, Survivors, and Guardians of Ga'hoole series, this sequel to The Guardian Herd: Starfire will have listeners glued to their headphones to follow Star's epic tale.

When Star received his powers on his first birthday, he became the most powerful pegasus in Anok. However, many were afraid to follow him and felt safer staying with their over-stallions. The rest unified with Star and formed River Herd.

But now a horrible plague threatens the five herds, and the heartless over-stallion Rockwing of the Mountain Herd has plans to kidnap Morningleaf, Star's closest companion, and take back Sky Meadow. Star begins to question his ability to keep his herd safe, especially with the threat of Nightwing the Destroyer's return - the pegasus who inherited the starfire before Star and used it for evil. As much as Star wants to rely on his friends again for support, he's afraid of the starfire he's inherited. Star can heal, but he can also destroy. And the question is: Will his dark powers overcome him?

Let me say a few things, these books great, a lot of excitement. The reader is amazing. I honestly love the performance but the story is.. in my opinion isn’t so great.. I am a person who normally handles gore pretty well but when I listened to these books, I just could barely handle it. It was awful, some of the deaths in these books. It’s probably the goriest book I’ve listened to/read. For those who aren’t able to handle gore, DON’T GET THESE BOOKS!! I know it doesn’t show the pictures, but it gives you a good enough explanation to give you a picture in your mind of the scene. So, if you can handle gore and horrible deaths.. get this.

I recommend reading this.

This novel makes the mistake of giving its protagonist the power to heal any injury, up to and including death, and then has to scramble to find a way to justify him not using those powers.

It does this by claiming that it would be wrong to rob people (well, horses) of their "destiny", which is to suffer and die on earth, so that they can reach eternal life in heaven. Repugnant if probably unintentional cultural Christian nonsense baldly stating it is wrong to heal the sick and wounded because it is our lot in life to suffer until we reach the promised land. Besides the bizarre messaging, it is extremely frustrating to read a book where the protagonist has the power to act and change his circumstances, but refuses to for a contrived, nonsensical reason.

On top of that, all of the female characters are either bland, supportive cheerleaders for the clueless male protagonist, or evil shrews, and the story just treads water for the majority of the run, circling around the same few conflicts– Star doesn't know how to lead, his herd isn't sure if they can trust him, horses are too warlike and can't accept peace, around and around. Not worth reading.

Wretched book
