Resumen del Editor

In The Great American Stickup, celebrated journalist Robert Scheer uncovers the hidden story behind one of the greatest financial crimes of our time: the Wall Street financial crash of 2008 and the consequent global recession. Instead of going where other journalists have gone in search of this story the board rooms and trading floors of the big Wall Street firms Scheer goes back to Washington, D.C., a veritable crime scene, beginning in the 1980s, where the captains of the finance industry, their lobbyists and allies among leading politicians destroyed an American regulatory system that had been functioning effectively since the era of the New Deal.

Awesome book!

What did you love best about The Great American Stick Up?

It summarized in one book what so many others tried to do. Namely it proves that the blame for the US "Empire of Debt" and our declining economy, falls on the laps of both the "liberal" politicians like Bill Clinton and Obama who were or are simply Wall Street's whores and the clueless "conservative" politicians like Bush and "B" Hollywood actor, Ronald Reagan. It showed that no matter who runs the country, it seems the real strings are pulled by the puppeteers on Wall Street. No one seems to have the backbone to stand up to their power. The American people are duped into believing the government has our best interests at heart when their politician spouts out promises every four years.

outstanding

No one who reads this book will ever think of big banks the same way again. It brings meaning to the term stickup without a gun.

A great telling of an unfortunate part of history

I wanted to know the names of who pushed the country off the economic cliff. Here are some. it is astounding to see they are still around, still influential, unrepentant and uncaring

The Best Book on the Financial Crisis

I've read 3 or 4 books on the financial crisis, but this one was the best. Scheer doesn't get bogged down in the financial minutiae that some of the other authors with less writing experience do. Instead he spins and interesting, down to earth, compelling story. The fact that Scheer isn't afraid to express his contempt for the morons that brought the U.S the worse financial crisis since the Great Depression, adds to the story.
