Boring Story

If you're interested in royal court drama you might like this book. If you're looking for a high fantasy story of any sort this probably isn't it. It feels like the author didn't have an overarching story to tell and was just focused on on the day to day of court drama. Performance was great, story just okay.

I can't wrap my head around this book.

Almost nothing happens and what little drama there is is slow and non exciting. AND YET I found myself in tears at the end of many chapters.
you most assuredly either love it or hate it.

Beautifully written, beautifully read

Some books are meant to be listened to and The Goblin Emperor one of those books. Katherine Addison‘s gorgeous pros and magnificently created world shine brightly in this audiobook. The goblin emperor, Maia, could have been a tragic or pathetic figure given the series of events that unfolded in his life, but instead, Maia is a likable protagonist that plucks at your heart strings in the best of ways.

The language and names of the people and places in the book are frighteningly complex to read, and I think that if I have been reading a paper or digital version of this book I would’ve stumbled over all the names to the point where it made following the plot challenging. Kyle McCarthy’s audio however is glorious to listen to. The beautiful but complex names is roll off his tongue like a little pearls. I thoroughly enjoyed it!!

Not your father's fantasy

Excellent, slow burn atypical fantasy in a world that feels just lived in enough.

Almost perfect!

The story and reading were very good, but there were some small editing mistakes in the audiobook. I think there were two parts where suddenly you could hear the reader speaking while simultaneously hearing different lines being spoken softly in the background.

Other than that, it is an excellent wor that is both compelling and hard to stop listening to.

Probably should have a physical copy or eBook

Overall, it is an interesting read. I did have trouble keeping names straight as several of them sound similar. I had an issue with the recording that sounded like an echo every so often that became a distraction

Good read

Once you get past the amount of names thrown at you and can get them lined up the story is a good read.

Wonderful World!

This was a terrific story. Great world building. The characters were very diverse and interesting! Maia is the youngest son of the Emperor. He had been sent into exile because he was half goblin. When his father and Three older brothers are killed in an "airship accident", Maia is thrust into a new court life and political system. He must make many adjustments to court life. There are many who do not want him as emperor. The only thing I had trouble with was getting all the strange names straight. Lol. The narration was terrific too!

Loved it!

Maintained my interest the entire way through, and left me startled when it came to an end, wanting more.

Its was fine

Middle of the road book. I enjoyed it, but would not put it as a favorite. It passed the time.
