Resumen del Editor

Sunday Times and New York Times best-selling author Cathy Glass returns with her first novel. The Girl in the Mirror is a moving and gripping story of a young woman who tries to piece together her past and uncovers a dreadful family secret that has been buried and forgotten.

When Mandy learns her much-loved Grandpa is dying, she is devastated and returns to the house where she spent so many wonderful summers as a child. But the childhood visits ended abruptly, and those happy days are now long gone. Having lost touch with the rest of her family, Mandy returns as a virtual stranger to her aunt's house to nurse her grandfather. Mandy hardly recognises the house that she had loved so much as a child, and it is almost as though her mind has blanked it out.

But as certain memories come back to her, Mandy begins to piece together the events that brought a sudden end to her visits that fateful summer. What she discovers is so painful and shocking that she understands why it was buried and never spoken of by the family for all those years.

Predictable and slow.

excellent read

another great read from Cathy Glass. Mandy's experience through her eyes was exactly as I would have felt. the resulting amnesia of her attack would be similar to mine as well. I'm so glad there was a happy ending!

Good Realistic Depiction

I have slowly become a Cathy Glass fan. However, reading the reviews on this book, I almost did not download it smh. I'm glad I did, and am not really sure what the bad reviews were talking about. Too slow? I mean maybe if your talking about getting to the nitty gritty on the child abuse part. Too graphic? Are they talking about the caring for grandpa part? Because yes, that was a very accurate description on what it could be like caring for a loved one that is dying. As a person who has taken care of a dying loved one, I appreciate the honesty this book provides. And the therapeutic affect it was able to provide for me. For a nonfiction novel it really did have a very authentic feel. I was a victim as a child and I've always known I was a victim. But, I know a few people that were victims and suppressed those memories. And they struggle a lot dealing with those memories that they should have been overcoming years ago. I also appreciate the message this book sends out. Not taking ACTION with these PERPETRATORS only allows them to offend again. It also has a very happy ending. Thank you Cathy for sharing your soul!

Good book! Great story

I love all of Cathy Glass books. Her stories are very discriptive from beginning to end. Cathy tells stories in a way that makes you feel like you are there. This story jerks at your heart strings with a families love and the things the girl goes through throughout her life. I loved it.

Disappointed

Too graphic and triggering. Too many details on a child rape scene. Not the usual foster care story. I love Cathy Glass but not this one.

A Moving Piece

I found this book one of her most moving books I've read. Though it was fiction I know people from whom this book could have been their lives. It is a poignant piece of literature that is very touching. At the same time it is hard to read as you realize that the adults made bad decisions that affected the lives of many girls around the uncle as this Pedophile was able to go many years raping young girls he came into contact with. If his brother and Mandy's parents had done what was right and turned him in he would have had to stop for a few years while in prison and then living in places would've been more difficult as people would be forewarned about his proclivity.

Great book to read or listen to.

Slow start, but great story

I am a huge fan of Cathy Glass’s true fostering stories and have listened to many of them. This is the first fiction I have listened to by Cathy. I’ll admit, the first 10 chapters or so were uneventful, and for several months I kept abandoning the book. I’m glad I stuck with it though because once the story picked up, it was very engaging and I finished it within a few days. The description of how memories repressed in childhood resurfaced for Mandy as a young adult was very interesting.

Horrible- the worst book I’ve heard, ever.

I usually really like Cathy Glass’ books, but this book was awful. 90% of this book was absolutely boring. The bulk of the book was mundane details that meant absolutely nothing and were repetitive. The important and interesting parts were few and far between. The Grandfather’s illness was dragged out, and the voice of the reader doing the grandfather’s voice is painful to listen to. I couldn’t wait for this book to be over. Waste of money and waste of time.

Disgusting

I rarely write reviews, but this one deserves a comment. I have enjoyed other audiobooks by Cathy Glass, but this one is awful. I wish I hadn't wasted my money on it. The story might have been intriguing, (although predictable), but the detail is gross and disgusting. Some of the descriptions were written only to gross out the reader; they were completely unnecessary, so I quit listening. I hope Kathy goes back to writing about her foster caring experiences.
