Resumen del Editor

The next in the #1 Sunday Times bestselling series, New York Times bestseller Kate Mosse returns with The Ghost Ship, a sweeping historical epic about love in a time of war.

The Ghost Ship floats silently on the water, all guns silenced, all voices quiet. In the hold, the bodies of men who are dead or dying, those who hid. The waters off the Barbary Coast are home to more privateers than any other, and now, this ship’s hull is splintered, the sails tattered and, burnt, its gold coins and bullion seized as the spoils of war. On board is the Huguenot leader of the Siege of St Rochelle, forced to flee the city in 1628, and the legendary and feared commander of the ship, kidnapped as a child from the island of Tenerife. Both know their fate. If they are arrested, they will be tried, condemned and hung for their crimes.

But things are not what they seem. For the bravest of those on board are, in fact, women living in disguise: Louise Joubert, to escape a family feud several generations old; and Anna Van Raay, fleeing a miscarriage of justice that would see her taken to the gallows. Both women know that, whatever happens, they cannot allow their identities to be discovered.

The Ghost Ship—the third in The Burning Chambers series—continues the story of the Joubert family and their descendants. A thrilling adventure story of piracy and revenge, lost treasure and family secrets, it ranges from France and Amsterdam to the Canary Islands, and across the high seas.

What A Disappointment

I love Kate Mosse. And I have thoroughly enjoyed the previous books in this trilogy. I couldn't wait to listen/read this third and final chapter in the saga. Other than referencing previous characters this book really had nothing to do with the previous books and had little of the magic of the previous titles. I was intrigued by the premise of women pirates But, I found the whole story kind of silly. It had the feeling of the Perils of Pauline and after the third or fourth miraculous turn of events (my English teacher used to call this technique "deus machina") I knew there was no issue. The love story between Lousie and Giles was never fully realized and did not feel real. This story stretched the limits of reality in my view. And the ending. Well, I think another reviewer noted the ending was more than disappointing. The writing, the research, and the attention to detail are always first-class with Kate Mosse. The story however not so much.

Vivid history

The relationships of the strong females carried through the generations was excellent and moving. The history of the Huguenots that was brought to life so vividly was a revelation.

Not very good

I really enjoyed the first 2 books in this series and was very excited to purchase this title. It started out good but as it went on the story dragged and became very slow. I understand this is fiction however many of the twists and turns are much like a Hallmark movie channel program- That is to say you will need to put aside all sense of logic and reason to connect the dots. Very disappointed would not recommend
