Resumen del Editor

When a moose is found on a portion of desolate African coastline, numerous people race to either help or hinder his plight. Befriended by a young local boy who vows to be the moose's friend and protector, the pair set off on an accidental adventure across the African wilderness. Along the way they befriend and/or evade such colorful characters as a rouge television news helicopter pilot, an eccentric, blood-thirsty billionaire, a brilliant mathematician-turned-pirate captain, a pair of opportunistic exotic medicine dealers, a disguised professional baseball player and his duped wife, and an assortment of concerned passengers and crew aboard an ill-fated cruise ship. Through a great deal of misunderstanding and mistiming, the fate of the poor moose is fought for on a stretch of seashore mistakenly referred to as The Gelatin Coast.

Laugh yourself silly with this one!

This book is simply too much fun! There are culture misinterpretations, language misinterpretation, planned and inadvertent silliness. The author is excellent at invoking visualization of incidents as well as individuals and settings. Although it moves along at a rapid pace, there is no difficulty in keeping up and laughing away any current negative perception of reality. If you have ever seen a french braid, with it's way of adding more into each plait as it comes into being, you have a visual on the way that this book moves ever onward, getting better and funnier as it moves along. I'm not into reviews giving recaps or spoilers, but that would be a daunting task for one who did choose to do so. Simply be aware that the publisher's blurb is simply a teaser from the beginning of the book and that it only continues merrily from there.
I had the audio version, and Joel Froomkin performed it magnificently!

This book is a blast from 'cover to cover'

Loved loved loved this book! The narration was really well done. The characters are believable and the action not so much but I didn't care. The writing style reminds me of Christopher Moore.
I liked the relationship that builds amongst different - very different - characters. It has a bit of a comic book feel to it - in a good way. The humor is meant to be over-the-top and it is! Talk about a fun ride!
I was gifted this wonderful book in exchange for an honest review.

Comedy of Errors

If you give a moose a muffin, he will want a glass of milk. Only in this book, the moose gets on an airplane and flies to Africa where he eventually crosses paths with a helicopter pilot, pirates and a baseball player. If you loved "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," you'll love this.

Everything that's good about an audio book!

Any additional comments?

If you've ever seen the movie "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" then you'll know the joy that awaits you with this listen!!

This is a very fun listen but at it's core, the joy is in the narration. The different voices that this narrator were able to convey, nay convincingly convey, were astounding. Can an audio book be considered a tour de force?! If so, bravo, bravo, bravo!!!

Laugh out loud Hilarious.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely - the writing is warm, witty and the performance is superb. The author's style is droll and totally delightful... It reminded me of the work of Dave Barry or Stephen Fry. The story weaves together a hilarious cast of characters all over the globe which come together in zany fashion. I've recommended it to people already.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Gelatin Coast?

The book is filled with 'aha' moments where you see how the ludicrous domino effects begin falling into place. It's like a giant wacky puzzle and watching it unfold is great, great fun.

Which scene was your favorite?

The early scene with the bat trapped in the car had me in stitches.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I found myself becoming surprisingly attached to Mickey the Moose.

Any additional comments?

A brilliant job with the narration. The narrator not only has wit and style, he juggles countless characters with a ridiculous number of accents. The performance has an insatiable theatricality which made listening a treat. I look forward to more from Sacrison... he truly is one of the most charming new writers I've come across.

Zany adventure story, amazing narrator

Reminded me of Razor Girl by Carl Hiaasen where seemingly disconnected events and a wide array of characters from around the globe eventually come together in a funny and explosive ending. Is there any accent the narrator, Joel Froomkin, can't do? He's amazing.

Narrator Stole the Show

This was an interesting story. It consisted of several different people (and a moose) in several different scenarios coming together through a series of mishaps. As I listened, I found the story slightly discombobulated with the potential to be a little confusing at times. Overall though, it reminded me of a George of the Jungle or Dudley Doright, slapstick type story.

Wow, what an AMAZING A+ narrator! I heard and believed every single character in the story. It was crazy how easily he shifted from one character to the next without missing a beat! I believe he saved this story and turned it into a fun, quirky adventure. I found myself totally engrossed wanting to hear how the story finished. Nice work Joel Froomkin!

Fine story with exemplary narration

The story is fun, kinda screwball. Kinda Carl Hiassen. Joel Froomkin does a masterful job at the narration. Accents, over-the-top characters. He really brings this story to life and I look forward to listening to more from him.

Just when you think it can't get any more absurd

Would you listen to The Gelatin Coast again? Why?

Yes, this is a hilarious, sentence-by-sentence, blind-leading-the-blind romp through Lady Luck's pit and tripwire filled backyard!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Gelatin Coast?

Oh, there were so many! One of my favorite lines (out of MANY) was, "The ridges of his brow nearly caused the cabbage to explode." I couldn't believe I heard that, and had to rewind and listen to it again. The mind's eye boggles.

Have you listened to any of Joel Froomkin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is better than some of the others I've heard. Very good distinguishing voices and accents, and a great narrative pomp.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Made me guffaw. Continuously and at high volume.
