Resumen del Editor

Two best friends create a computer that can predict the future. But what they can’t predict is how it will tear their friendship - and society - apart.

“A fantastic page-turner and a future classic.” (Peter Clines, New York Times best-selling author of Paradox Bound)

In Development as an HBO Max Original Series

If you had the chance to look one year into the future, would you?

For Ben Boyce and Adhi Chaudry, the answer is unequivocally yes. And they’re betting everything that you’ll say yes, too. Welcome to The Future: a computer that connects to the internet one year from now, so you can see who you’ll be dating, where you’ll be working, even whether or not you’ll be alive in the year to come. By forming a startup to deliver this revolutionary technology to the world, Ben and Adhi have made their wildest, most impossible dream a reality. Once Silicon Valley outsiders, they’re now its hottest commodity.

The device can predict everything perfectly - from stock market spikes and sports scores to political scandals and corporate takeovers - allowing them to chase down success and fame while staying one step ahead of the competition. But the future their device foretells is not the bright one they imagined.

Ambition. Greed. Jealousy. And, perhaps, an apocalypse. The question is...can they stop it?

Told through emails, texts, transcripts, and blog posts, this bleeding-edge tech thriller chronicles the costs of innovation and asks how far you’d go to protect the ones you love - even from themselves.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“Tightly braided ... Sci-fi fans are sure to be entertained.” (Publishers Weekly)

“Let me tell you about your future: You’re going to love this book. A fascinating premise, brilliantly executed. The Future Is Yours is a thrilling sci-fi adventure you simply can’t put down and a masterful modern take on the epistolary novel.” (Sylvain Neuvel, author of the Themis Files series and A History of What Comes Next)

“An impossibly addictive brainteaser wrapped in a buttery popcorn kernel. One of the most engaging literary experiments since House of Leaves, The Future Is Yours played with my mind as often as it played with its own form. I finished this book in fewer minutes than there were pages.” (Aneesh Chaganty, director and co-writer of Searching and Run)

Another full cast hit!

Original fun, featuring a wide variety of lively characters and a story arc that moves crisply along. Initially, I found this to be leaning towards a YA dystopian offering, but as the story unfolded, it seemed to gain both muscle and maturity. The characters draw the listener in, and the overall tone of the book is compelling. One of the better offerings of 2021 so far. For those of you interested in quantum computing ( and who isn't these days! ) I highly recommend it!

Time travel in a different way

The Future is Yours by Dan Frey was a unique take on the classic time travel novel. A brilliant young college grad student comes up with a theory that would allow data to be transferred from a computer in the present to itself one year in the future and then back, allowing the user to basically surf the web one year in the future.

Along with his business savvy best friend they launch a business to make billions of dollars to make this invention a mass marketed device. But they soon find this invention isn't everything they thought and advertised it would be, and it may end up destroying mankind rather than delivering the future to all mankind.

This entire novel was written using texts, emails, interview transcripts, and web pages from the characters in the story, which reminded me of the Themis Files series by Sylvain Neuvel. A good read, and a solid 3 1/2 out of 5 star read.

Good Listen

Nice little sci-fi I can see why it got picked up as a tv show. I really enjoyed this authors other book, The Retreat, as well.

A fun read that sneaks up on you with its heart and philosophical questions

The Future Is Yours is amazing. At one level, it reads like a fun thriller and its form of digital epistolary definitely lends itself to its page-turner qualities and heightening sense of intrigue. But through its plot, it raises some fundamental questions about free will and the relationship between knowledge and choice that force you to consider our present relationship to technology and how it is changing our minds and concepts of being human (in this, it certainly draws from Homo Deus). And a layer underneath that, that undergirds both plot and philosophical musings, is a heart wrenching story of love and friendship. And it leaves you with the question of whether love and friendship are enough—strong enough, good enough, worthy enough—of combatting the drive towards destruction. I wouldn’t say the novel really reminds me of Margaret Atwood in style or world building, but its delicate, and kind of sneaky, layering of these these 3 elements (fun to read, confronting and exploring important philosophical questions, and emotionally powerful) so remind me of what she does. I can’t recommend the book enough! Oh and also the full cast production is great and really well acted throughout.

Awesome cast brings an engaging story to life!

I was a little worried that the format of this book wouldn't translate well in an audio version, but the amazing full cast really brings it to life! Such an intriguing plot that kept me guessing on the characters' intentions and motivations right up to the end, and what a great ending it was! A fun read that I will keep thinking about for a while.

The Future is (REDACTED)

Superb voice acting to this exciting tale of emerging tech that can change the world!

We've all have been curious to know what the future might hold, this story explores what would happen if a researcher and a businessman create a device that can foresee a year into the future, and try giving it to the masses. How would society and our government react to it? How would it change our world, but most importantly how it would change people.

Definitely listen for fans of Sci-Fi, Dramas, and the philosophy of Time Travel and it's impact on Free Will

Lots of good and important questions

Wow this really made me think. This book is about 2 guys who create a way to look 1 year into the future. So many questions came up while reading this. Should people be able to have access to this information? People could die in direct result from this, but you could make the argument that if cars never were invented all those people who died in car accidents would still be alive. Also electricity, no one who died from electrocution, all alive. I mean the list could go on forever and ever. There is probably at least 1 person who has died from any invention, technological or not. But we live in the age where technology will keep going forward. Also when is it okay for the government to tell you what access should we have to information? When is it okay for them to step in and say no you can't give this information to the people. When should that line be drawn or should it be drawn at all?
5/5

Just like a cup of coffee that is half enjoyed

So I have to start off by saying this is actually a 2.5 star review. However, I absolutely loved this audiobook! I know that sounds weird. I loved everything about it however I thought the ending was certainly disastrous and a cop out. I almost felt like it was one of those and he woke up and the dream was over. That is not how the book ends but that’s what I felt like. I invested so much time, so quickly and the payoff was not worth it. That’s why this went from a five star almost down to a two star. I’m not entirely sure but I think one of the main characters had the same performer voicing him up until the very last chapter. This is concerning. Why invest so much time in a performer which did a fantastic job and then have someone else do it in the last chapter? Again, I could be totally wrong which I hope I am and I just hope my hearing is going LOL as weird as that sounds but it just seemed strange. They talk about different products throughout the audiobook however don’t divulge much into them so it’s almost like a mention and then they just leave it and go back to the main storyline. The main character has a meeting with a government organization which is awesome and I was hoping for throughout the entire book but that’s it. They should have went deeper into it or there should be a second book or a spin off which goes into this. If there is I will 100% change my rating and change my review but until then I have to leave it as a 2.5 which I think is generous. This is a full cast performance which is what I really enjoy. Every performer did a wonderful job and added life, vibrancy and creativity to the story. I just think there needed to be maybe another couple of hours of work to perform. I hope there are more reviews as I am not one that reads reviews before or after listening to the audiobook similar to mine. Or I hope that my review was known to the author LOL wink wink, anyways. I hope for more in the series and I will 100% change my thoughts and opinion of this book but for now it Hass to stand at a solid 2.5 instead of 5 I even loved the ethnicity of all of the characters. Especially the mother of one of the characters. Please, please, please, make more or go back and make a directors cut of this.
