Acerca de esta escucha
Explore the prayers that have come to define the Catholic Church with celebrated Notre Dame professor Father Nicholas Ayo. Now you can embark on a remarkable spiritual journey with the author of The Creed as Symbol, The Lord’s Prayer, The Hail Mary: A Verbal Icon, and Gloria Patri: The History and Theology of the Lesser Doxology.
In this profound audio series, you will understand these great prayers as windows into Catholic theology and spirituality. As Fr. Ayo presents the Apostle’s Creed in its fullness, you’ll learn how it first served as a baptismal creed and a profound summary and distillation of what Jesus of Nazareth meant for Christians.
Next, you’ll examine the three other prayers that rank with the Creed as the most known and prayed of all Christian prayers. You’ll revisit the words of Jesus in The Lord's Prayer and examine the Hail Mary, the Ave Maria of song and tradition, a prayer particularly loved by Catholics. Finally, you’ll explore the significance of the most recognized and known doxological prayer found in Christian prayer, the Gloria Patri. Fr. Ayo will explain the four modalities of prayer - as praise, forgiveness, thanksgiving, and petition - as well as the best ways to use them.
Father Ayo’s unique approach, incorporating both scholarship and poetry, will educate and inspire you. Join his classroom from your home or car today.

What can Galileo's extraordinary life and profound legacy teach us today? Galileo's story is a touchstone in debates about science and religion, but our preconceptions inevitably color the way we see the issues. From the age of the apostles to Vatican II, the Catholic Church has evolved and invigorated itself. Now, you can take a riveting journey through Church renewal and reform. When we first encounter the words reform and renewal in talking about the Catholic Church, we might think of Vatican II and the idea of aggiornamento - "updating". But the history of reform is nearly as old as the Church itself; indeed, one of the constants in Church history is change.

Every true period of renewal in the Church has been marked by a rediscovery of the person of Jesus Christ. The Second Vatican Council inaugurated such a rediscovery. It asked Christians to “return to the sources” - especially the New Testament and those early theologian-bishops known as “the fathers of the Church” - as a way of envisioning anew their faith in Jesus. A half-century later, Father Robert Imbelli pilots you through this mental safari into the unmapped regions of your imagination.

No other institution, except possibly the papacy, has more greatly influenced the church and the larger history of the Western world than the ecumenical council. Most of us, however, know little about it. This course is designed to take you through the fascinating history of the ecumenical (church-wide) council, from its first appearance in Nicaea (325) through Vatican Council II (1962-1965). This 12-part audio series explores the deep issues of faith and the sometimes curious issues of clerical behavior with which the councils dealt.

Another Great John W. O'Malley, SJ Experience
- De S. Cremona en 02-04-23
De: John W. O'Malley
I will most definitely take a second listen to this but this tune with Pen & Paper ready for note taking!
Thanks Audible, THANKS Fr. Ayo!
I am ABSOLUTELY AMAZED!
Se ha producido un error. Vuelve a intentarlo dentro de unos minutos.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
None. The author's, Fr. Nicholas Ayo, teachings in this lecture are not Catholic, they don't follow Catholic doctrine, and he does not cite from the Catechism of the Catholic Church. For example, he states:1 - Jesus did not come to die for us for our sins. Jesus merely came to be with us, to spend time with us. The author does not even try to explain Bible verses such as Romans 4:25, 1 Cor 15:3, 1 Pe 3,18, etc., where the bible states otherwise. 2 - Hell is not a place of torture because God is not vindictive. Again, the author doesn't even attempt to explain bible verses (Matt 25:46, 2 Thess 1:6-9, Rev. 14:11, etc.) where the Bible contradicts his doctrine. 3. - The punishment of Hell is a medieval invention. 4. - There is most likely no one in hell because God's mercy is infinite.Has Our Great Catholic Prayers turned you off from other books in this genre?
No. But it will definitely make me more cautious about the authors I choose to spend money on.Any additional comments?
The author states that he has respect for other person's opinions. However, he has no respect for the Catholic Church's teachings as he does not even acknowledge that what he teaches contradicts the teachings of the Catholic Church.NOT Catholic! Not even Christian!
