Resumen del Editor

Explore the prayers that have come to define the Catholic Church with celebrated Notre Dame professor Father Nicholas Ayo. Now you can embark on a remarkable spiritual journey with the author of The Creed as Symbol, The Lord’s Prayer, The Hail Mary: A Verbal Icon, and Gloria Patri: The History and Theology of the Lesser Doxology.

In this profound audio series, you will understand these great prayers as windows into Catholic theology and spirituality. As Fr. Ayo presents the Apostle’s Creed in its fullness, you’ll learn how it first served as a baptismal creed and a profound summary and distillation of what Jesus of Nazareth meant for Christians.

Next, you’ll examine the three other prayers that rank with the Creed as the most known and prayed of all Christian prayers. You’ll revisit the words of Jesus in The Lord's Prayer and examine the Hail Mary, the Ave Maria of song and tradition, a prayer particularly loved by Catholics. Finally, you’ll explore the significance of the most recognized and known doxological prayer found in Christian prayer, the Gloria Patri. Fr. Ayo will explain the four modalities of prayer - as praise, forgiveness, thanksgiving, and petition - as well as the best ways to use them.

Father Ayo’s unique approach, incorporating both scholarship and poetry, will educate and inspire you. Join his classroom from your home or car today.

I am ABSOLUTELY AMAZED!

There is so much great content within the Bible that I never knew yet easily understood by Fr. Nicholas Ayo.

I will most definitely take a second listen to this but this tune with Pen & Paper ready for note taking!

Thanks Audible, THANKS Fr. Ayo!

NOT Catholic! Not even Christian!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

None. The author's, Fr. Nicholas Ayo, teachings in this lecture are not Catholic, they don't follow Catholic doctrine, and he does not cite from the Catechism of the Catholic Church. For example, he states:1 - Jesus did not come to die for us for our sins. Jesus merely came to be with us, to spend time with us. The author does not even try to explain Bible verses such as Romans 4:25, 1 Cor 15:3, 1 Pe 3,18, etc., where the bible states otherwise. 2 - Hell is not a place of torture because God is not vindictive. Again, the author doesn't even attempt to explain bible verses (Matt 25:46, 2 Thess 1:6-9, Rev. 14:11, etc.) where the Bible contradicts his doctrine. 3. - The punishment of Hell is a medieval invention. 4. - There is most likely no one in hell because God's mercy is infinite.

Has Our Great Catholic Prayers turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. But it will definitely make me more cautious about the authors I choose to spend money on.

Any additional comments?

The author states that he has respect for other person's opinions. However, he has no respect for the Catholic Church's teachings as he does not even acknowledge that what he teaches contradicts the teachings of the Catholic Church.
