Acerca de esta escucha

A female psychiatrist at a state mental hospital finds herself at the center of a shadowy conspiracy in this dark and twisting tale of psychological suspense from the author of The Absence of Mercy.

Menaker State Hospital is a curse, a refuge, a prison, a necessity, a nightmare, a salvation.

When Dr. Lise Shields arrived at the correctional psychiatric facility five years ago, she was warned that many of its patients - committed by Maryland's judicial system for perpetrating heinous crimes - would never leave.

But what happens when a place like Menaker is corrupted, when it becomes a tool to silence the innocent, conceal an injustice, contain a secret? Why is it that the newest patient does not seem to belong there, that the hospital administrator has fallen silent, and that Lise is being watched by two men with seemingly lethal intent? The answers are closer than she realizes and could cost her everything she holds dear.

In this chilling follow-up to The Absence of Mercy, author John Burley - a master at medical and psychological detail - showcases the many ways in which the dangers of the outside world pale in comparison to the horrors of the human mind.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes! Not only was the story very intriguing, but there was also very in depth information about mental disorders especially bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. The characters are all captivating and well thought out.

What did you like best about this story?

I best enjoyed the complexity of the story. Just like an onion, as the story progressed, you kept getting into different layers of the story from the mental disorders, mob wars, cover-ups, military hero, family secrets and more. How can I pick just one?

Was The Forgetting Place worth the listening time?

Absolutely! I knew it would be a great story from the moment I read the description.

Any additional comments?

If you enjoy psychology and true psychological thrillers, you will enjoy this book.

A tad bit predictable towards the end, but def worth a read!

A true psychological thriller!

It's a unique view of a mental health condition. Well written.
My daughter (26) enjoyed it as well as her parents.

Great plot twist

I was expecting more suspense like the book Coma. Not here, lots of historical character development in the first two hours with barely any story development. Like a neighbor telling me their life story. Fine but what does this long story your telling me have to do with the book storyline? Dont tell me a story for the sale of telling it. I gave the book another 30 minutes and realized I was waisting my time. The only similarity to Coma this book had is it was putting me into one.
There are two narrators and the male is better. The reason I say this is the female created nasal sounding FBI characters, irritating to listen to.
Not recommended, unable to finish.

Not worth a credit.

A bit slow paced and boring
