All the struggling this child went through made her very strong.

That she died so horribly. Her story intrigued me. So much sorrow that went on during WW2.

Heart wrenching

The ending left me feeling shocked and heartbroken. Such a powerful story of tragedy, sadness, struggle so many feelings. To know this is the true story makes it so much more special and meaningful.

This is my third time reading this amazing Biographical novel. I am currently using the book to enhance the experience of my student’s participation in the LOTS program (Lessons on the Shoah) at the John Carroll High School in Bel Air, MD. This year’s theme is, “How children experienced the Holocaust (before, during, and after).” I read the book last summer and Elida’s story will always remain in my heart and mind, I wanted to share Elida’s story with others. The end of Chapter 8 and epilogue brings me to tears with every read. Am Yisrael Chai! May Elida’s memory forever be a blessing!💙✡️💙

Elida’s search for identity

I was honored to hear Elida’s story of courage, determination, and thirst for knowledge. This story highlights a facet of the Holocaust that is often underestimated in its impact on Jews living today. The many children that were smuggled out of ghettos into the care of strangers is impossible to ignore when you have heard Elida’s story.
