Compelling and Heart-wrenching

This book was particularly touching since i grew up in a near-by Mennonite community and went to a neighboring Mennonite church. I knew Leona as we were class-mates in high school and attended the same summer bible school programs. I could identify with much of what she struggled with regarding the Mennonite faith, and was also riddled with guilt for not knowing how much she was dealing with and what she had to keep hidden from her social circles. Dr Stucky has an eloquent way of sharing the depth of what it is like to live, breathe and marinate in such a deeply entrenched religious culture and what it feels like when it fails you. Her story depicts the amazing courage she must have to endure the abuse and violence and isolation and come out as this powerful woman, healer, counselor and advocate. I guarantee you will not want to stop listening to it till the end.
