Resumen del Editor

Why are women more verbal than men? Why do women remember details of fights that men can't remember at all? Why do women tend to form deeper bonds with their female friends than men do with their male counterparts? These and other questions have stumped both sexes throughout the ages.

Now, pioneering neuropsychiatrist Louann Brizendine, M.D., brings together the latest findings to show how the unique structure of the female brain determines how women think, what they value, how they communicate, and who they love.

While doing research as a medical student at Yale, and then as a resident and faculty member at Harvard, Louann Brizendine discovered that almost all of the clinical data in existence on neurology, psychology, and neurobiology focused exclusively on males. In response to the overwhelming need for information on the female mind, Brizendine established the first clinic in the country to study and treat women's brain function.

In The Female Brain, Dr. Brizendine distills all of her findings and the latest information from the scientific community in a highly accessible book that educates women about their unique brain/body/behavior.

The result: women will come away from this audiobook knowing that they have a lean, mean, communicating machine. Men will develop a serious case of brain envy.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"[The book] offers a trove of information, as well as some stunning insights. Though referenced like a work of research, Brizedine's writing style is fully accessible....While this book will be of interest to anyone who wonders why men and women are so different, it will be particularly useful for women and parents of girls." Scientific, and not politicaly correct :)

I've always found the unisex movement in its different forms, to be quite silly and uneducated. This book cleared up some facts that I didn't know about the female brain. So I'm glad that Louann kept it scientific and didn't go the "politically correct" way.
Easy book to follow along, and some great examples from her patients and herself, so that you can understand and not get bored with fancy "clinical words" .
I probably appreciate this because English is not my first language, so my vocabulary can be improved on.
I clearly recommend this book! Give it a try :)

Not politically correct, huh?

The use of factual data does not mean that you are not being politically correct. Widen the frame of reference beyond simple facts and you'll see that the underlying story you weave is all about political correctness. you present justifications for incoherent and unreasonable behavior in women and frame men and children as expendible casualties in the war to get women whatever they want whenever they want, based on their hormonal imbalances. if I were not already married I would probably run away as fast as I could from marriage after listening to this.

Kinda boring.

Struggled through a few chapters. Hard to believe the differences between males and females. Thanks.

Excellent book, needs updating and a re-record

The author does an excellent job providing medical and scientific information on a readable level. Published in 2007, the book needs updated information on hormonal therapies, race and hormones, and a chapter on transgender brains. As others have mentioned, the author uses her bedtime story voice but it does get better as the book goes on, notably absent in the epilogue.

Incredible

It was like someone described my while life - even the parts that haven't happened yet but I've seen my mother go through.

It's so healing and unnerving to hear that such big parts of my personality are so much of a common experience for females.

I think every human should have the information in this book - one way or another!

Dont hesitate - this book will change your life!

Good, one sided.

32 y/o male here. I argued with the book more than I feel I should have. This is a great resource to understand the mind of a woman biochemically, but I felt that it didn't give enough attention to the influences of external stressors aside from broad stroked statements and half-sentences mentioning - perhaps haphazardly - sustained verbal abuse, highly stressful careers, male partners that were dunces at communication, etc. These things are understandably frustrating and stressful to most people I'd presume. Environmental problems have environments solutions, do they not? the author does a thorough job of explaining the biochemical process that women go through from that environmental stress induced chemical reaction, and then goes on to solve the problem with a prescription. Not what I personally needed to read - I looked forward to there being some sort of consequence of repercussion for a verbally abusive husband, a recommendation of therapy for the man, Maybe I'm too idealistic.

Loved the content

Book was good! Helped me to understand why I am the way I am! Narration is very monotone, I mostly listen to books in the car- and one day I had to turn it off because I almost fell asleep. I am a woman in my early 30’s divorced, no kids, in a serious relationship- I told my significant other that I know I will Marry one day, if we ever have a daughter to remind me to re-read this book! Looking forward to reading the male brain!
