Resumen del Editor

Elegantly styled, Camus' profoundly disturbing novel of a Parisian lawyer's confessions is a searing study of modern amorality.

Born in Algeria in 1913, Albert Camus published The Stranger - now one of the most widely read novels of this century - in 1942. Celebrated in intellectual circles, Camus was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1957.

Great essay on moral superiority

This is a one-sided conversation in Amsterdam between two practicers of law. It's a short, wonderful summary of the vanity of moral superiority and all shapes it can take.

existentialism at its best

The narrative starts with such a passion and speed that I had to rewind and listen again and to fully grasp the mood. The initial impact results in a disorientation at first. Yet, one starts to see everyday people, city dwellers, as well as movers and shakers with such an intimate portrait that it is impossible to end this book without being mesmerized with a strong sense of spiritual enlightenment. A must to understand humanity and for those who question the purpose of life, with this audio edition of The Fall, Camus finds its meaning with Ballerini's powerful voice.

Thought provoking

Good book to get yo know the classic author. beautiful prose. I think it would have been easier to follow the story reading rather than listening as there are underlying philosophical truths. However it is read well and it is a monologue of someone telling another his story.

what is morality?

This superbly written novel is a sophisticated introspection, setting a mirror in front of the reader. It is not monsieur Clamence who is hiding moral degeneracy under the facade of the good and proper, it is us.

Stirring

I’ve read many of Camus’ works, but never this one. It was a real hole in my experiencing literature that I’m very happy to report is now filled. This is an extremely beautiful and haunting story that is very accessible. The progression of the tale as the main character’s self opens up and is revealed represents the finest skill in the art of storytelling.

I couldn’t recommend it any more strongly.

The narration is superb!

Wow Wow Wow

I thought about this book for a while after I initially read it. I had heard of Albert Camus and actually picked up The Stranger and The Fall outside of my apartment building (someone left them out for free.) I felt Camus follow me everywhere as I saw The Fall at a second hand book store. I read it pretty quickly and felt I didn’t fully retain the book but craved to read it again. I thought about it a great deal and bought the audible book to listen since it was a different approach to sitting down and reading.

I was absolutely captivated. As I walked throughout the streets of Manhattan to see a friend I was craving to listen to more. I hung on every word, any free time or just aimless activity I listened. Tomorrow I’ll do the same. The idea of doubles and the representative of no particular somebody’s but us as a whole is just incredible. Absolutely brilliant, I can’t wait to analyze it even more.

Take the leap of faith

Each word is masterfully written with an apparent or eventual purpose, read carefully and ironically.
