Resumen del Editor

US Marshal Harry Finch had received a $10 counterfeit note and his assignment was to find out who had been passing them around. Upon examining the bill, Harry noticed a distinct resemblance to a counterfeit bill his dad had been given years ago, and he had arrested a man and sent him to prison. Never having found the plates, the case was never officially closed. And here it was years later and the bills were showing up again. What followed would take US Marshal Harry Finch from his comfortable Washington DC office across the country to the Wild West in pursuit of the plates and whoever was responsible for them, and in doing so uncovering a plot to take over the US gold supply. Many surprise turns on this journey.

Perhaps the Beginning of a New Series

The Engraver was a decent story with everything one would expect from a good western. It had likeable characters and the author, E.C Herbert had a the right feel for the genre. I liked the character of Molly.

There were some audio issues with Kevin Iggens's narration. It sounded as if the volume went up and down. Also, it was monotone lacking in any voice inflections. To me this affected the overall outcome of the audiobook.

Reader version

The story line and plot was good. The phraseology was somewhat clumsy.
The author must hire an experienced narrator as the audio version is terrible.

The Engraver

The Engraver: The Harry Finch Western Series, Book 1
: E.C. Herbert

This is an interesting historical, western fiction. The U.S. Marshal's are on the trail of counterfeiters. There is suspense and plenty of adventure.

The narration was ok and while Kevin Iggens voice is pleasant there was no emotion or inflection in the delivery. It was a bit dull.

This story was well written and developed but the narration was spotty. I got this book via audiobook boom.

Dragged Down by Narration

The audiobook narrator dragged this one down. Very little differentiation on the voices, monotonous inflection. While his voice was pleasant enough when it came to the descriptive portions, it was severely lacking during the dialogue.

I was reluctant to finish this one. What kept me going was the Western plotline. The setting felt rich, but overall the story didn't grip me like I hoped it would. It's not terribly written. I think my disinterest can be blamed on the narrator and the story's pacing. The written pace wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be. I sped up his narration while listening to see if it would help any and no, it did not.
