Pronunciation and Editing Issues

The narrator's pronunciation of terms and names is very poor in many areas, and at some point (with about 29 hours and 50 minutes left) the editing disappears. The listener begins to hear the narrator making a lot of mistakes and restarting his sentences and phrases. Worst of all, however, with about 29 hours and 57 minutes left, in the midst of the "Gospel of Thoms part 2," the narrator lets out a nice big burp. This audiobook is lacking in professionalism.

Poor Narration

Great content but very poor quality narration. We pay a premium price for audio. The voice is somewhat cartoonish as well as many mispronunciations and interruptions with authors notes. On a positive note, the chapters are labeled.

(Authors note!)

So off the bat I'll say that those commenting on the Narrator, I would say at least it was tolerable by comparison to this Authors previous attempts at Audio books, the previous iteration was read by A Narrator that was so deadpan monotone despite the information being intensely interesting & informative that you'd swear the guy had experienced A stroke before recording it.

The thing that I really disliked here in this version of Lumpkins lost books collection was the infernal AUTHORS NOTE! this interruption was A literal speed bump in so many sections where if ANYONE had EVER read the Bible beforehand would understand what was being said & just became outright annoying, every other sentence was peppered with these bullet holes in the narrative, one minute your listening to The Most High speaking to Moses, BLAM AUTHORS NOTE! For some small mundane thing that was wholly unnecessary to "explain" or "Translate" then to get two more lines in before BLAM another one for the SAME THING!

It's like riding A public bus & every stop is less than 80 feet from the last one, but SOMEHOW every stop someone has to pull the cord, stop the bus & decides to get off instead of just walking the extra 80 feet so the bus could get A LITTLE further ahead.

This stalls everything out & puts uneeded strain on the engine, stop, start, stop, start, but this is done with ones attention & is all the more A detriment when your really getting into whats being said or what messages are being conveyed.

Otherwise I'm content with the information presented, even the synopsis at the start of each chapter on the historical information regarding these passages, even IF I find some of them suspect, such as the Gnostic information presented by certain entries, if anything it presents A clear view on what Paul & others wrote of when warning of deceptive doctrines the contradict the Gospel.

So I would recommend it still as even with the speed bumps, the information is edifying, it may not be Scripture, some of it may have BEEN Scripture but was hidden due to it's information being controversial for it's times or peoples or even attempts to obfuscate it for malicious intent, no matter the case, the Word of the Lord as promised will never pass away, do the good works, keep in Study & as always Love his Grace & Mercy.

My the Lord Bless one & all who seek him in truth & in love for the gifts we have been given & for the mercies we have yet to receive.

Narrator Loses His Place & Burbs While Reading!

The Narrator Mel Jackson while reading The Gospel of Thomas Part 2 Loses His place from time frame 58.02 To 1:10.00 and keeps repeating the same lines over and over and is disorientated. At The Gospel of Thomas Part 2 time frame 104.26 min he lets out a Huge Burp while reading and continues repeating himself! Is there NO QUALITY CHECK before selling an audiobook? Geezzz

Maddening!

The constant interruptions with the “authors note” and footnotes is absolutely MADDENING! I’ll delete and purchase something else, as this is literally unlistenable!

Good collection

Anyone interested inlost books of the bible will enjoy this volume . not a complete set of all the lost books as there are over three hundred but it is a good start. I recommend this to all bible scolars and believers.

Worth listening just for the rip roaring belch in part 2 of the gospel of Thomas😂

Incredibly long and yawn worthy collection of ancient books. I love history of 2nd temple Judaism and early Christianity so I was able to muscle my way through this tome. I can’t say I’d recommend this book but it certainly helps fill out the historical perspective or traditions that were held both before and after Jesus. Some are genuinely interesting, whilst some are down right weird as all get out (Enoch and Gnostic stuff especially). Too bad our churches don’t educate us in the very rich 2000yr history of the movement because it really does help fill in many of the doctrinal/ cultural/ social gaps that we have no idea of. Let’s just say that Jesus wasn’t born in a vacuum and neither was Christianity. Everything has a backstory and this book is part of that.

Horrible Narration!

After the dozens and dozens of audiobooks I’ve listened to this is the first time I have felt strongly enough about the presentation of the audiobook to leave a review. The narration of this book is absolutely horrible! The narrator has no experience and sounds like he’s reading a nursery rhyme to a child most the time. I couldn’t get even an eighth of the way through this volume. I bought another version of the apocrypha narrated by someone with ability.
