Ian Rutledge returns to his career at Scotland Yard after years fighting in the First World War. Unknown to his colleagues he is still suffering from shell shock, and is burdened with the guilt of having had executed a young soldier on the battlefield for refusing to fight. A jealous colleague has learned of his secret and has managed to have Rutledge assigned to a difficult case which could spell disaster for Rutledge whatever the outcome. One of my favorite authors
I have read Phyllis A. Whitney books for over 45 years. This book is an enjoyable read; it kept my interest as I tried to figure out who 'done it' and had a surprise ending like many of her books do.

Classic Phyllis Whitney
I've been a fan of Phyllis Whitney for many years. I love everything about her books.
The Ebony Swan, like her others, is filled with foreboding and suspense. Anna Fields has done a wonderful job of of performing it.

Not bad
This book was fairly enjoyable, though flawed. Except for the main character - an aging former prima ballerina - the other characters are pretty one-dimensional; and while the “evil” characters are given pat explanations of why they are evil, they are just a little too OBVIOUSLY evil. Also, the “romance” between two characters is WAY too fast to make sense.
However, the narration is quite good, covering a lot of flaws.

Wow a Phyllis Whitney!
This book was as good if not better than all her novels I’ve read. I’ve been in love with her writing ever since I first read the young adult novel, The Eyes Have It…. Earthquake in SanFrancisco and a fantastic black sculptured cat. She fought my imagination then and has never lost it.
