Pretty good addition to the series :)

3.5-4 stars

This was a pretty good addition to the series. I liked both Rhona and Vigholf and enjoyed their story overall.

Rhona is a dragoness that's part of the Cadwaladr Clan (which makes her cousins or whatever to most of the other dragon MCs in the series). The Cadwaladr Clan is full of seriously good dragon warriors and just about every member is a high level warrior in the dragon army. Rhona is the eldest daughter and her mother expects her to follow in her footstep, as a dragon warrior. Unfortunately for Rhona, she really loves working with her father as a blacksmith but her mother gives her so much grief as it is, Rhona hasn't tried to leave her position as a soldier to become a blacksmith full-time.

Vigholf is a lightning dragon from the northlands and brother to Ragnar (the MC in [book:Last Dragon Standing|7117197]). Vigholf is a fighter and second in command to his brother. Vigholf has also had a thing for Rhona for years but his efforts to get her attention hasn't worked out very well.

The lightning dragons have been fighting with the fire dragons for about 5 years, fighting a common enemy that are a bunch of fanatics that want to take over the world for their god. The war has been going on for 5 years now and things seem close to a tipping point. Rhona and some of her kin went north to fight on the front and Vigholf has been around since then. Since women are rare in the north, the northern dragons tend to be very protective of their women. Vigholf tries to be protective of Rhona but she doesn't look on his actions favorably, instead seeing him as an interfering pest that doesn't think she can look after herself...which she does not appreciate at all.

Soon after the beginning of the story, Rhona gets sent on a mission and Vigholf manages to get himself sent along to help out. He still tends to piss Rhona off and this keeps going until around 1/3rd into the story and he literally has to come out and tell her he likes her before she realizes why he's been acting the way he has. Once she realizes this, Rhona is able to deal with Vigholf better and come to terms with his interest. Rhona and Vigholf start on what's supposed to be a short mission but it turns into something bigger...taking them on a journey that gives them plenty of time to get to know each other better and eventually become involved. Their mission does help to tip the war efforts greatly in their favor and in the end, Vigholf and Rhona are together and heading towards a HEA.

This was a pretty enjoyable story. I liked Rhona pretty well. My main detraction for her was that she called Izzy a whore because 2 guys were fighting over her when none of it was Izzy's fault. That judgmental attitude really pissed me off so I was glad when she stopped that crap. Vigholf was a good hero...a bit puppy-dogish and kind of dense at times but he was sweet and I liked him. Overall, the characters and story was pretty good and I'm still enjoying the series on the whole so I'd still recommend it. :)

* note - This is a new narrator for this series and my major complaint is that the new narrator didn't seem to feel the need to listen to an audio of a previous book because she mis-pronounced (aka slaughtered) about half the character names (compared to how they were pronounced in the previous books). I got used to it by the end of the book but it was very annoying in the beginning.

Bring back Hollie Jackson!

In all fairness, I know I am being terribly unreasonable but I cannot listen to this narratation. I am used to Hollie Jackson reading this series and I find no enjoyment in this audiobook without her familiar voice.

Great book!

I do not like the new narrator. Holly Jackson became the voice after so many books. The books are still amazing!

Narrator changes disappointed

G.A. Aiken dragon kin series is the best dragon series that takes fantasy humor, family all in one and make it a memorable story. I love this series and the storytelling. It is well written. highly recommend. very disappointed that the narrator was change. The pronouncements is very different from the previous narrator, and I just didn’t like the tone for each characters but the story overall helps me get through with the narration.

Names not pronounced the same as the other books

I liked the story but the name pronunciations were distracting. The narrator should have listened to the other stories.

hardest book ever to finish

if you have read the last books you will see that the narrator change. The worst part is her pronunciation of half the names. it ruin the book. I cannot believe the director allowed her to butcher the names in this book.
storyline and characters
I recommend and only reason I read this book.
the human, dragan, witches and gods combination in this book is fantastic. It has everything its love, war and adventure.

Another great story in the series!

Like all the dragon kin books, I greatly enjoyed this installment in the series. The stories tell the tale of a new couple but include and expand on the lives of the characters in the previous stories. However, I’m a bit put off by the change of narrator who pronounces many of the names differently than the previous narrator. Very frustrating and distracting but overall great story! ❤️

Storyline Still Good Narration Not As Much

The storyline and series continues to be good and I enjoy it a lot, however the new narrator changed the pronunciation of many of the names which detracted from my enjoyment of this book.

Different narrator

Only complaint is the new narrator says the names differently and even gave one of the main female leads a very male voice...wish there was a smoother transition.

Funny and sexy and dragons

Solid narration by Morgan Hallett. Definitely more enjoyable than reading - for me narration keeps me from skipping parts of the story and makes immersion in the story deeper. A nit pick was that some of her pauses seemed overly long.

This is not the first book in the series, Having read all the books, I was already familiar with the characters and their quirks, although GA Aiken does provide some description of the characters as they appear in the book. I hope they add the other books to the audio library. I would certainly purchase them. The main concept is that dragons in this world can morph into a human shape. And most humans don't know that.

The series is sort of a romance/comedy/fantasy action story. The "romance" and language is explicit at time - this is not a book for young readers.

The number one attraction for me of these stories is the humor. And I'm a sucker for romances with happy endings.
