Acerca de esta escucha
In the tradition of best-selling legal memoirs from Johnnie Cochran, F. Lee Bailey, Gerry Spence, and Alan Dershowitz, John Henry Browne's The Devil's Defender recounts his tortuous education in what it means to be an advocate - and a human being.
For the last four decades, Browne has defended the indefensible. From Facebook folk hero the "Barefoot Bandit" Colton Moore, to Benjamin Ng of the Wah Mee massacre and Kandahar massacre culprit Sergeant Robert Bales, Browne's unceasing advocacy and the daring to take on some of the most unwinnable cases - and nearly win them all - has led 48 Hours' Peter Van Sant to call him "the most famous lawyer in America." But although the Browne that America has come to know cuts a dashing and confident figure, he has forever been haunted by his job as counsel to Ted Bundy, the most infamous serial killer in American history.
Browne, a drug- and alcohol-addicted yet wildly successful defense attorney who could never let go of the case that started it all, here asks himself the question others have asked him all along: Does defending evil make you evil too?

Recalling the great muckrakers of the past, an outraged team of America's best-selling writers unite to confront the disasters of wrongful convictions. Wrongful convictions, long regarded as statistical anomalies in an otherwise sound justice system, now appear with frightening regularity. But few people understand just how or why they happen and, more important, the immeasurable consequences that often haunt the lucky few who are acquitted years after they are proven innocent.

For 31 years, a monster terrorized the residents of Wichita, Kansas. A bloodthirsty serial killer, self-named "BTK" - for "bind them, torture them, kill them" - he slaughtered men, women, and children alike, eluding the police for decades while bragging of his grisly exploits to the media. The nation was shocked when the fiend who was finally apprehended turned out to be Dennis Rader - a friendly neighbor...a devoted husband...a helpful Boy Scout dad...the respected president of his church. Written by four award-winning crime reporters who covered the story for more than 20 years, Bind, Torture, Kill is the most intimate and complete account of the BTK nightmare

In January 1978, I slept in my bed at the Chi Omega sorority house at Florida State University as Ted Bundy stalked nearby. He grabbed an oak log from a stack of firewood, slipped through a back door with a broken padlock, and headed upstairs. He began twisting doorknobs. Room 9 was open, and he quietly and quickly killed one of my sleeping sorority sisters. Across the hall, he found another unlocked door and murdered again. Then, he turned the knob to my bedroom and found it was open. I remember the attack vividly. But Bundy wasn’t my first brush with death, and he wasn’t my last.

On first impressions, Ted Bundy seemed like the perfect all-American boy. He was good-looking, fun, and very charming; many women found him irresistible...But deep inside he was an evil monster who used his insider knowledge of law enforcement to evade detection as he terrorized large areas of America, murdering white females, mostly college students aged between 15 and 25. This is the story of a chameleon-like psychopath and necrophile who lured innocent victims to a horrible end.

Absolutely fascinating
I like that the author went into his background, and how he came into law. I really didn’t want to have an entire book on just Bundy. It was interesting to hear of the other cases. Fascinating.

Ted Bundy and other delites
Very much enjoyed....I don't know this author......alot of information on Bundy and others that I didn't know either. It had some humor, alot of sadness, I remember the government figures when I was little, so corrupt at that time...quite entertaining, the narration was well read too. I think most people would enjoy this author, highly recommended......

Interesting subject matter.
Joe Barrett was the perfect narrator for this book. He made it sound like he was the person who experienced the thoughts and emotions of the writer. And the author, John Henry Browne, sure can make dull court cases into an enthralling story. I felt personally involved with Ted Bundy in particular. Totally enjoyed it.

Captivating autobiography
I love this autobiography. He’s interesting, compassionate, and a bit of a thrill seeker. This is not a book about his clients. But of him and his experience and I love that. It was wonderful to hear how he grew up the way he did, live the life he lived, and cared about saving peoples lives, even when they didn’t deserve it.

The author of this book has done TV interviews in the last couple of years, so I know what his voice sounds like. It isn't the winey guy from hell's voice, who is the narrator, that is for sure. Please get this rerecorded ASAP!

Browne’s staggering egoism and self promotion does not bury an otherwise interesting tale.
With the exception of the lengthy and familiar discussion of the Bundy catastrophe, Browne’s unfortunate personality traits are outweighed by the fascination of his less familiar cases. Browne ponders how charming young Bobby Bales became mass murderer Sgt. Robert Bales. I’m more interested in understanding how the delightful teenager raised in Leave It To Beaverland became the Eddy Haskell who wrote this book.
