Resumen del Editor

Rebecca never felt safe as a child. In 1969, her father, Robert Nichols, moved to Sellerstown, North Carolina, to serve as a pastor. There he found a small community eager to welcome him - with one exception. Glaring at him from pew number seven was a man obsessed with controlling the church. Determined to get rid of anyone who stood in his way, he unleashed a plan of terror that was more devastating and violent than the Nichols family could have ever imagined. Refusing to be driven away by acts of intimidation, Rebecca's father stood his ground until one night when an armed man walked into the familys kitchen...and Rebecca's life was shattered.

If anyone had a reason to harbor hatred and seek personal revenge, it would be Rebecca. Yet The Devil in Pew Number Seven tells a different story. It is the amazing true saga of relentless persecution, one family's faith and courage in the face of it, and a daughter whose parents taught her the power of forgiveness.

Loved it!

A story of the negative, harrowing, dangerous, and stressful side of spiritual leadership, while also being a realistic and admirable lesson in faithfulness and supernatural forgiveness.

Long

The heartbreaking story, but heartfelt with God. I personally found some parts made up as with the age that it happen to the story being told. But all in all I would recommend the book as it does have meaningful reflection on God and his Grace.

Forgiveness?

This is a well written book. Captivating to say the least. I will say Forgiveness is it possible? Forgiveness must be given should we desire it in return. You will need it remembered that before you decide to measure it against someone.

Faith and Common Sense are Not Mutually Exclusive

This was a compelling story, followed by a sermon on forgiveness. Unfortunately, the extreme nature of this story probably means you should not read/listen if/when you are struggling with Faith. The devil in church wasn’t new or shocking, but the Pastor and church’s response will leave you baffled. After finishing this, I need to pray to be able to forgive them, not the criminals. Just wow…

I found myself struggling against “victim blaming” while listening to this book. The idea that exercising common sense and good judgment is evidence of a lack of faith angered me. Waiting on God to intervene to stop clear threats of physical violence against your family, while doing so little to stop it, because of your faith that God wants you to stay doesn’t seem inspirational or smart. God gives us warnings and a discerning spirit for our protection. Failing to be proactive isn’t an example of “great faith.” Especially given the events following the ultimate confrontation. I found myself struggling to forgive the
Pastor and Congregation, forgiveness for the criminals was actually easier. After all, you expect the devil to try to steal, kill and destroy…it’s his whole job. I don’t expect for the Shepherd to standby wringing his hands and praying, without taking action to protect the flock.

I loved the narrator though. It was incredibly well read.
