Resumen del Editor

This book is the second part of three parts on the development of the American social welfare state from 1933 to 2016. This volume is focused on the action (or inaction) toward a comprehensive social welfare state during the American presidential administrations of Richard Nixon to Barack Obama (until January 2016). This volume is concentrated mainly on American economic philosophy, in particular the common misperceptions around the term neoliberalism. We will examine these beliefs and what effect they have had on any development of the American social welfare state.

Which states receive the most welfare?

I like the history Thomas F. Winterbottom provides. He talks about different eras in our history with some interesting sources to back him up. For a 4 hrs and 14 mins audiobook, this is so worth it!
Here are the 10 states with the most welfare recipients: New Mexico (21,459 per 100k)
The ten states that have the highest number of SNAP recipients are:

California (3,636,314)
Texas (3,291,843)
Florida (2,779,400)
New York (2,642,450)
Illinois (1,780,778)
Pennsylvania (1,741,489)
Ohio (1,378,556)
Georgia (1,348,973)

This one gave me an abundance of understanding in the development of the American Social Welfare State from Nixon to Obama. The narrator William Bahl did a great job.

I find it very enlightening

I have found this book immensely helpful in understanding the American history in comparison to many conservative books that typically just list the litany of stupid things they propose. I find it very enlightening with the amount of useful and new information he gives.

Lovethis. Please read this.

The maximum welfare income for a single parent with one child ranged from $18,240 in Nova Scotia to $23,436 in Newfoundland and Labrador, and for a couple with two children it ranged from $26,505 in New Brunswick to $32,757 in Prince Edward Island.

What is the concept of welfare state?

Everybody wants a lower tax bill. One way to accomplish that might be to live in a state with no income tax. As of 2020, seven states—Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming—levy no personal income tax. Two others, New Hampshire and Tennessee, don't tax wages. Welfare state, concept of government in which the state or a well-established network of social institutions plays a key role in the protection and promotion of the economic and social well-being of citizens. There are six major U.S. welfare programs. They are the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs (SNAP or "food stamps"), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), and housing assistance.

Remarkable

Being raised on Welfare also increases the probability that a child will drop out of school and will be on Welfare as an adult. Analysis shows that these effects are caused by Welfare per se, not simply poverty; a poor child without Welfare will do better than a similar poor child with welfare.

In depth

The depth and breadth of the research very effectively prove the points Mr. Thomas is trying to convey to the listener. In some instances, the depth he goes into can bog down the overall flow of the book, but overall, I found it a very compelling story.

Be Ready to learn the truth about our country

Welfare or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) provides cash for a limited time to low-income families working toward self-sufficiency. TANF may also offer non-cash benefits such as child care and job training.

Democracy in decline in the USA

By the numbers, welfare reform was a success. More than 13 million people received cash assistance from the government in 1995, before the law was passed. Today, just 3 million do.
