Kyle Riggs sits uneasily upon Earth’s throne. He’s liberated his homeworld from a tyrant, only to replace him. In The Dead Sun, the ninth book of the Star Force Series, the Great War between life and the machines reaches its final chapter. Both sides have new technology and expanded industrial bases. Star Force and the machines attempt to exterminate one another in a final, glorious conflict. Along the way, Riggs finally learns who his real friends and enemies are.

The Dead Sun concludes The Star Force series but don’t worry – we’ve got plenty more military sci-fi action from best-selling author B.V. Larson. Check out Steel World, book 1 in B.V. Larson’s new Undying Mercenaries series.©2013 B. V. Larson (P)2014 Audible Inc.

This is one of my favourite books in this series. As usual lots of action , events, and death, but lots of hard decisions to make too.

I have enjoyed this book all the way through, and its ending was hard and it wasn't easy , but i have found it to be really good.

I wonder whats going to happen next!!

End Of An Era

As with all the Star Force books, I devoured this one too. This has been a great series and I have really enjoyed it. I'm going to miss Riggs and his crazy robot. I liked this book a little more than the others. The others got a little bit monotonous. A few of them seemed like I was reading "1000 Ways to Use Nanites" and that got a little old, but I still enjoyed them. This one was not like that. It was fast paced and seemed better balanced. I recommend this book and series to any one that craves military sci-fi.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Very satisfying series finale. Would definitely recommend the series. I wish we would have gotten more information about what Marvin really is.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dead Sun?

The author has create a viable alternate universe. I can't believe he's just going to walk away from it.

Excellent Series Finale

With each Star force book I always look forward to where B.V. Larson takes the journey. This book did not disappoint, and was a solid end to the main line story that I have greatly enjoyed.

Not what I expected

Would you consider the audio edition of The Dead Sun to be better than the print version?

I consider ANY audiobook with a good narrator to be better than a print book, since I have a long commute. Mark Boyett *IS* the voice of Star Force, and his narration helped make the series great for me

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kyle Riggs is definitely my favorite, though Marvin grew on me big-time as the series went on. Kyle is a total bad-ass because he had to be, and embraced his responsibility to the extreme. The indifferent reasoning of Marvin, being an AI, and the interchanges between him and Riggs were really some of my favorite parts of the book.

What about Mark Boyett’s performance did you like?

What can I say? His range of inflection made it very clear who was speaking, and he did in a consistent enough manner to allow one to truly identify each character. He also did an outstanding job assuming personalities for each character and feeding that into his performance such that you felt you really knew these people. In short, he brought these characters alive better than any movie could have.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I actually felt bad for the machines in the end. Their defeat was total and they really wanted to preserve their existence. Then to deal the Blues such a decisive preemptive strike really struck me as incredibly sad, but imminently necessary.

Any additional comments?

I thought the previous book jumped the shark a bit with the Crowe/cyborg thing, but this final booked redeemed it. While I hate to see it end, it was ready to be finished. I will miss waiting for the next installment with intense anticipation.

I hate to see it end!

If you enjoy Science fiction, there are few things as delightful as a very long saga that continues to engage and wraps it up leaving no loose strings.

this is the beauty of this series. From start to finish, a complete story with character development that keeps your interest.

So glad to know that there is another book. Going to purchase immediately. Truly, this is worth the time investment. And M.B. does an excellent job with the narration. Definitely, he added to the enjoyment of this story!

Have Enjoyed This Saga So Very Much!!!

B V Larson has done it. I have listened to the series twice now and enjoyed both times. I highly recommend this series to anyone that wants to listen to a long series. If I can find any weaknesses it is that the technology is a little weak. But the story line makes that in noticeable.

A Great Work

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes i would there is a chess match with a lot of action

Have you listened to any of Mark Boyett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Mark is a great performer you don't have to guess who is talking you know by his voice who is speaking

Any additional comments?

I was happy about the last battle. It wasn't by the skin of his teeth that he won the finial battle. It did seem in the earlier books it was always a close battle that he barely won

I was disappointed with the end of the story. Riggs didn't like farming he like designing and programming, the other books said that more then once. One thing i did like about this last book was we were not reminded over and over again how hard his Marines are to kill.

I didnt like that fact that he just left Marvin. Marvin had become his friend and he just abandon him to ? people that would have destroyed him or will because they dont know how to talk to him. He really just abandoned everyone.

As smart as Riggs is he basically left the earth to people who could not do what he did to save it and he came to that conclusion towards the end but yet he gave up his position to people who would not be ready if the ancients came. If this story was to continue in the future they would come calling on Riggs to save the earth once again and it would be a struggle every time.

In all that was disappointing to me this was a very good series Larson kept me coming back for the next one.

Worth your time

Where does The Dead Sun rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

BV Larson's Star Force series rates very high on my favorite books/series. The Dead Sun was up to par with his earlier Books in the series. It still didn't have the hanging by your nails off the cliff, won't go to sleep until I'm done pace and action to it of the first 3 books. Hopefully it will continue it's upward trend.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dead Sun?

I don't want to post a spoiler.

Any additional comments?

Good showing. I look forward to another high-caliber book in the series soon.
