Resumen del Editor

I'm Sam Quinn, the werewolf book nerd owner of the Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar. Things have been busy lately. While the near-constant attempts on my life have ceased, I now have a vampire gentleman caller. I've been living with Clive and the rest of his vampires for a few weeks while the Slaughtered Lamb is being rebuilt. It's going about as well as you'd expect.

My mother was a wicche and long dormant abilities are starting to make themselves known. If I'd had a choice, necromancy wouldn't have been my top pick, but it's coming in handy. A ghost warns me someone is coming to kill Clive. When I rush back to the nocturne, I find vamps from New Orleans readying an attack. One of the benefits of vampires looking down on werewolves is no one expects much of me. They don't expect it right up until I take their heads.

Now, Clive and I are setting out for New Orleans to take the fight back to the source. Vampires are masters of the long game. Revenge plots are often decades, if not centuries, in the making. We came expecting one enemy, but quickly learn we have darker forces scheming against us. Good thing I'm the secret weapon they never see coming.

Contains mature themes.

The story continues

Seana Kelly’s next novel in the Sam Quinn series does not disappoint. In this page-turning urban fantasy, Sam and Clive travel to NOLA to discover who orchestrated the attack on the nocturne. Together with other supernaturals, they’ll battle against NOLA vamps focused on serving Clive his true death.

Simply great

the first story was very good but this one was even better. So many layers have been added, the intricacy of the story keeping me on it, and unwilling to put it down until I had it all through.
The rich narration simply fabulous... can't wait for the 3rd installment to be available on audible... I could buy the book but I would miss all the voices, I wouldn't have all the people talking to me.
Narration is such an inclusive experience when it is that good 👍

Excellent listen!

It's been a while since a book/Audible has really gotten my attention completely; with an amazing and unique storyline plus excellent Narrative. I'm so happy to say this one was amazing! Thank you so much for writing such a entertaining Novel and thank you for pairing it up with an excellent Narrator!

Sam Quinn Continues

This was a good second book in the Sam Quinn series. All of the original characters are there plus a few more added. The bad guys are truly evil and the good guys deal in shades of gray. Sam still has some of her ‘stuff’ to deal with but she’s growing. Her scars are becoming less noticeable. There were a few times that I felt that some of the scenes were just filler but some of those became a little more significant later on. Ms. Desz did a good job of narration.

audio book

I like the Sam Quinn series but this audio book for The Dead Don’t Drink at Lafitte’s starting around chapter six thought nine or ten you get random busy tones that interrupts the story. Super annoying, recommend the paperback or kindle version.

The Narrator Saves the Author From the Tropes

See my review of the first book. I gave the second one a chance hoping that they author would move away from the tropes and clichés and write something original...nope.

reader saves the book

The reader does an excellent job. She's the reason why I finished the book. The MC stated frequently in book one about her poor body image, clothes worn hide all scares, mistrust of strangers, rarely venturing away from her home and more. She avoided looking at herself in mirrors. Her she is dressing like a 'bad ass b*tch' . Wearing clothes to expose the scares. Willingly interacting with strangers, walking around a strange city and more. Her power to see the dead reveals itself. She's a book dealer. Does she look for books and/or information to understand it? Nope! Does this shy person experiment to understand it? Nope! Here she's running around New Orleans using her power. The MC says, I don't know how I can do that. Speaking about running around the city; she knows she's in a dangerous situation. She knows her insane aunt is out to kill her and has made multiple attempts on her life. She knows the New Orleans vampires are after her vamp lover and those associated with him. So what does she do? Run arou d the city alone, unarmed and not paying attention to her surroundings. I can't suspend enough of my belief for some of the things going on. Things that aren't explained. In the vadt majority of lore werewolves have self healing and regeneration. That means no new scars unless the injury is inflicted with silver or devastating. So why does she keep gettong scars? Nothing is said to explain this worlds werewolf abilities and weaknesses. MC has not experimented with her physical abilities. Yet here she is scaling the outside of a 3 story building, using her poorly understood powers on what is described as a dangerous opponent. Where's evev minimal logic?
