A Frenchman has been beaten to death in what appears to be a botched burglary, and catching a killer is more important than locating a wayward scientist. But when Henri learns that the victim's brother is a doctor who worked at the same hospital as the missing German, his investigation takes a disturbing turn.

Uncovering a relationship between the two men—one that would not be tolerated by the Third Reich—Henri must tread carefully. And when he discovers that Dr. Brandt's experimental work is connected to groups of children being taken from orphanages, Henri risks bringing the wrath of both the SS and the Gestapo upon himself and everyone he loves.

Disappointed

The reader almost seemed to be whining when speaking as the main character when discussing his issues. The story was just ok, but would probably have been better if I read it versus listening to this book presented by this narrator.

Disappointing

The story had potential but it was very slow building, It was difficult to engage witht the narrator. There is a strange echo-lisp with all words ending with a hard consonant.

Paris under Occupation

This book had a lot going for it—setting, time, compelling plot. However, the
decision to turn the French policeman into an American-accented “tough guy” simply ruined the entire experience.

Horrible narrator

The story was predictable although Pryor does a good job giving a sense of place and time. But the narrator was horrible. A miserable choice for a book about a French detective.

Clever and Satisfying

Have enjoyed and appreciated All of Mark Pryor’s books. Thank you for including it in Audible Lubrary.
