Resumen del Editor

Rachel Simmons is a New York Times best-selling author and the founding director of the Girls' Leadership Institute. The Curse of the Good Girl looks into the phenomenon of the glass ceiling placed on girls who attempt to live up to the standard of being "good". Simmons then shows how parents can help build girls' self-esteem and give them the strength to pursue their goals.

GOOD WRITINGS ON SOCIAL AGGRESSION

This book is a good resource for bullying, indirect aggression of all sorts, as well as, the power of social expectations, ostracism, & their effects across the life span focusing on female adolescence & pre-adolescence but applicable to, essentially, anyone. Lots of insights.

Best book for mom's of daughters that I have read

This book is absolutely fantastic! I have a 12 yr old daughter who is struggling with her friendships and listening to the book helped me understand "girl culture" as I never did before. I felt like I should have been taking notes throughout the entire book. Great advice for helping my daughter and myself to become more emotionally aware and authentic in our relationships with others. I highly recommend this book!

Raising a pre-teen

I listened to this with my 11-12 year old on the way to school. This was a great book to listen to together, we would pause it and have conversations. As a mom, it reminded me of things I need to teach her, but would not have otherwise. I'm thankful for this author! great book!!!

READ THIS ❤️

That was my second round and I’m going to do a third—and I don’t even have kids! I’m just trying to figure out how to empower myself, and how I’ve allowed and created the opposite as a 40 year-old-woman. Society really tries to shhhhhh us, then we do it to each other. Great book that analyzes, reflects, and leaves you inspired to help create real “girl power.”

excellent narration - great for audio listening

Did The Curse of the Good Girl inspire you to do anything?

After listening to the book... I was inspired to listen more and advise less as "girl stuff'" came up with my daughter. The tools in this book helped guide me in my understanding of what my daughter is experiencing... and provided good fodder for questions to ask her to help her better explain and understand the issues she's facing herself.

Any additional comments?

I would recommend this book to parents to girls ages 10 to 18ish.

Now I Understand

"Assertiveness!" A review screamed at me. I bought the book because I wanted to better myself and therefore my daughter in this way. While reading this book, I was taken on a roller coaster. Each hump of the roller coaster was a new emotion. The book took a deep dive into a culture I had grown up in, experienced, and felt the repercussions of... But never stopped to carefully examine. The book touched on assertiveness and so many more skills lost to girls with the narration quickly bringing you through each chapter. I highly recommend this book to anyone that seeks to understand what it means to be a perfectionist, has felt misunderstood, wonders why they feel attacked in confrontation, or doesn't feel listened to. If I could sum it up in one word...enlightening.

I wish I had read this years ago

I really liked Odd Girl Out. I was teaching when I first read that book, and I had to rethink all my assumptions about the teenage girls I was teaching. This is a great follow on book with practical techniques to help girls in growing their own voice. The approach seems quite natural and I see it as distinct from assertiveness training, which is all about having women learn to act more like men. I wish I had read this when it first came out.
