Resumen del Editor

A short tale of mummies, werewolves, and well-preserved felines set in this Parasol Protectorate prequel!

When Alessandro Tarabotti and his valet, Floote, find themselves in Egypt on the queen's business, a chance encounter with tourists quickly leads to a...situation...with the local mummies. Can Allesandro complete his secret mission before he's hijacked by social obligation? And how will his aunt Archangelica react to his treatment of her cat?

For years the subject of speculation and rumor, the nature of Alexia Tarabotti's father's adventures and romances is finally revealed in this glorious full-cast audio production with an original score by composer Danny Schade. ArtisticWhispers Productions and New York Times best-selling author Gail Carriger are proud to present you the long-awaited stand-alone prequel to her defining steampunk masterpiece The Parasol Protectorate.

Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

Short but nice

Before this, the only thing I had read by Carriger was "Soulless", and I did really enjoy it. I grabbed this to try and get a little background info, and while it was good it didn't really give me what I was hoping for. It was a story from the past, but only showed that the dad did some cool things then and worked for interesting people. I guess I felt there could have been more to it. Still worth a listen.

Need more!

This needed to be longer. The father's adventures could be their own series into antiquity. I'd also love to know wtf tempted him to reproduce with Alexia's b*tch mother 😑

excellent

Excellent companion to the soulless series. I've enjoyed all of her books and especially the parasol protectorate.

Too short ML kind of boring..

We follow Mr Tarabotti through dusty streets. there are some fight scenes and it does get exciting with some of the Parasole protectorate pre back story and some intrigue.... but the story isn't long enough and doesn't seem to have the usual flair A Carriger story line does. From this short story, it'd seem that Carriger should stick to writing Main Female Leads. I loved all the Finishing school series , The parsole protectorate and the Custard protocol series, but was disappointed in this story. Maybe because story didn't get a full book so it couldn't get more fleshing out? or we didn't get to read the courting of Alexias mom and her father more? I would have prefered a whole actual book if it was like the others.

Wow this is bad in comparison

The narration makes me blanche. This added very little to the other stories. In short, I hated it. Please do not do this again.

Terrible narration

I couldn’t even listen to the first story... the narration was amateurishly bad. I enjoyed several of Gail Carriger’s books so I was expecting entertaining short stories... very disappointing!

2.5 Stars

I loved this series so I thought I would try this prequel. It was okay. I likely won't ever listen to it again though. It didn't hold my attention well enough. The narration was wonderful and the best part of this book. It was a quick listen at only 52 minutes.

Distasteful

Death and destruction for some purpose that probably furthers the plot but makes this little segment really unpleasant. Poor cat plot point is wasted; somebody doesn't like cats.

Disappointed

The story itself is okay, but I felt that the narration was terrible. Majority of the character voices were off putting, especially the brief line of the female voice. It was read too quickly and it was hard to follow what was happening because of it.
