Resumen del Editor

In this compelling historical novel by former Associated Press reporter and entertainment writer and book author Fred Yager, Cambodia is still a war-ravaged country, even though the Vietnam War has ended. Esther, a recent college graduate and an American volunteer, is trying to make the lives of Cambodian refugees better. But with more recent news that Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge's plan to create a new revolutionary nation may actually be turning into mass genocide, she decides she must find a way to speak up about these killings to the refugee commissioner. With the reluctant help of Tipton, an American Vietnam War deserter who drives the river boat, the Asian Queen, Esther plans to travel into Cambodia to find evidence with the hope of bringing attention to what is really going on so there could be an end to these atrocities. But will she be able to make it out alive?

An honest and compelling historical novel

Fred Yager does a perfect job of mixing Cambodia’s tragic history with a story of hope and perseverance. I love the richness and the depth of the characters, especially Esther, whose ambition to make a change was very relatable. I found myself rooting for Esther as she faced her near impossible mission of bringing attention to the killings - which most nations wanted to ignore. Each of the characters’ backstories, whether they be Vietnam veterans or victims of a genocide made them all the more human.
I don't often read historical fiction but The Asian Queen really opened my eyes to the genre!
Much praise for the narrator Ray Weaver who does a perfect job of creating a suspenseful atmosphere through his reading.

Great story that pulled me into the history of the Cambodian genocide

I loved the pacing of the story. The detailed imagery makes you feel that you are with the characters in the jungles of Cambodia. I loved the developments the characters Esther and Tipton showed throughout the book.
The narrator was great and really captured the atmosphere of the novel.
Overall a good way to learn about the history of the Cambodian genocide through a suspenseful story.
