There are no happily ever afters in the new Undead World. There are no vacations or time-outs or do-overs. There's only the endless daily grind of living or the shockingly horrific fact of death that hangs over every living creature left on the face of the earth. For some, that death lies in a single mistake or a moment of bad luck, or simply in fate. For others, that hard death hounds them day and night, relentlessly. When a huge bounty is placed on their heads, Neil Martin's misfit family is set upon by ruthless bounty hunters. They are pursued by sociopaths, sadistic ex-soldiers, and, of course, the warped Believers of New Eden. There's no refuge, no place of safety, and no shining city on a hill that will take them in. They are outcasts and doomed to flee from their enemies until they're forced to make one great stand.

What made the experience of listening to The Apocalypse Outcasts the most enjoyable?
Very well narrated. What did you like best about this story?
Character development, especially that of Jillybean and how a child copes with a world full of zombies and desperate people.Any additional comments?
Interesting characters with lots of flaws and oddities make this book series more than your average zombie saga. Often it feels that the zombies are background players that frame the story, but don't play a major part other than to create the disaster everyone is coping with. The wide range of characters developed in the prior books struggle to survive and deal with the new normal. Characters aren't sacred in this series and bad things happen to them all.The bounty hunter character started off strong but became more of a bit player. It would have been interesting to see this guy developed further.
All in all a good listen and well narrated, but start with the first story so you'll have the full character development.

Note that for some reason the audio version of this book isn't linked to the kindle version, so reviews for it from Amazon when viewed from Audible are non existent. Likewise, if you view the audiobook on Amazon there are no reviews. I hope this is addressed for everyones benefit.
The first book did a good job of establishing the fallen world, and a lot of the main characters. Including sadly some despicable examples of humanity. The author starts off with a note to some of the readers who have he felt unfairly taken issue with some of the the portrayals in the book. After listening to them, I can understand some of the feelings on both sides. I do personally feel more the possible mistake was the person in question was just an all round horrible, horrible example of a human being.
The second book was a very emotional ride. It introduced us to a fantastic new character, Jillybean, a young child who has survived alone through the apocalypse. I have to admit, I was finding my eyes watering up at a few places in the book. Jillybean to my mind is probably easily one of the best, unique child characters in adult fiction. As with The Walking Dead though, no-one is safe and main characters do come and go. Fortunately, some of these are bad characters. Unfortunately, some of these are good people.
The third book in the series, it just kept getting better and better. The situation was a mess, with the main group of good characters dealing with the fallout from their actions in book 2, and one person making the decision to try to recover a missing family member. Jillybean's character progresses in depth, with her savant like skills and an underlying psychological issues becoming apparent. The book completes a full story, and finishes satisfyingly, not ending on a cliffhanger. It did however leave me wanting more.
The narrator, Basil Sands, is fantastic. Basil Sands is a pretty good author in his own right, and I've several of his books in audio format (which he also narrates), and thoroughly enjoy them. And I'd recommend people check out his works also.
Highly recommended. I can't wait for more to appear on Audible.
