Resumen del Editor

An easy-to-listen-to audiobook about the American Revolution - one of the most important events of Western history - in DK's inimitable style, narrated by William Roberts.

The Declaration of Independence is one of the most pivotal documents in Western history, along with the Magna Carta and Emancipation Proclamation. Almost 250 years after the founding fathers signed the Declaration and heralded the birth of the United States, the story of how America overthrew the British is as meaningful today as when the ink was still wet on the page.

This audiobook explains the story of every major military action with comprehensive timelines for every stage of the Revolutionary War. This account also includes revealing first-person accounts by soldiers and civilians, as well as discussion of the treatment of prisoners and what the wars meant for women, Native Americans, and African Americans. The American Revolution: A History brings the drama of the Revolutionary War to life with DK's unique compelling narrative.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"There's enough content to give readers an understanding of why this historical period is important; some of the material will even give students a better grasp than textbooks." (School Library Journal)

Great general overview!

Like most people I studied about the American revolution in school, so had a basic understanding of the events. But it’s been awhile and I wanted to get a refresher. This audiobook was perfect for that, and does a fantastic job of laying out in a clear and concise fashion the proximate causes in the lead up, and then a good amount of details of the war itself without getting bogged down. The narrator was a pleasure to listen to. This my first history listen on audible, and hope there are more like it. The only suggestion I’d make is that sometimes the narrator reads a set of facts, or bullet points that sound like they were contained within a box in the book. It would be better to have these read at the beginning of the chapter they are in, rather than where they appear in the book. While this works in a written text, it interrupts the narrative flow. Otherwise 5 stars all the way.

Narration is extremely annoying

For some reason the narrator changes his voice when reading a quote and there are lots of quotes. He raises his voice and attempts to sound like a different person, perhaps even ‘stately.’ It is so annoying to me that I won’t finish this book and will look for a different book on the American Revolution.

poorly delivered.

Information delivered terribly. performance ok. way too slow and uninteresting. Very surface level info, nothing really notable.

Great if you can stomach the jackass narration

Starts off with silly sjw prop about white "privilege", but once underway it is packed with broadly based facts, plenty of them, which is good. The narrator reads it like he's a cameo actor in a Shakespearean play, which is hard to take. But it's still a great story, because it is such a great story.
