Resumen del Editor

Something bad is happening....

One touch and a person begins aging rapidly. Years in a single day. Before anyone can react or stop it, entire cities are crippled.

As survivors flee to their homes, Elizabeth and her children watch with an increasing sense of dread as the death toll climbs. Then, when a terrifying way to slow the aging is witnessed online, the enormity of the event becomes clear. Now, waiting it out is no longer an option, finding safety is. But venturing outside is deadly. Come in contact with the wrong person and their days are numbered. Ignore the warnings and it’s over.

Three weeks later as the event escalates, Elizabeth must trust the survival of her children to the one person who others trust the least. As they embark on a frightening journey through a hostile country with more questions than answers, they’ll soon discover that reaching safety will be more difficult than imagined. In a desperate world where age isn’t a number but a death sentence, can anyone be trusted?

With tension and suspense unlike any other, The Aging is a high-octane post-apocalyptic thriller that weaves the chaotic world of the past and present together to keep you on the edge of your seat until the last chapter.

Requires serious suspension of disbelief

The pandemic that brought on this apocalypse isn't realistic, but with serious suspension of disbelief, it can be accepted. It is quite unusual and serves as a basis for this rather compelling story. Missing from the story altogether are details that would make it seem more realistic, such as dealing with the basic necessities of life. However, the characters are well drawn and reasonably believable. And Mike Piscitelli's performance is quite satisfactory.

Different Take On Post-Apocalyptic Fiction...

I went into this book really wanting to enjoy it, but I ended up just kind of suffering through. Jack's writing hasn't always been my favorite, but it's always decently competent and it was here. The story itself is told decently and the characters were okay, but other than that this story fell flat in a lot of ways.

The pacing of the book wasn't very consistent, as sometimes you were drawn to be engaged, but other times the story was a struggle to get through. Honestly, I believe that if this was read by someone like R.C. Bray it would have been much better. The narrator just didn't perform the different character voices very well and it was painful to listen to at times.

The actual concept of the virus in the book is very cool and a bit novel, so I have no complaints there, but other than that, the story is very average.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Great Post-Apocalyptic

What a great heart wrenching post-apocalyptic and quite different one. Loved the characters of Josh, Lily, and Ben (the father) while an aging pandemic occurs. I was moved by the ending. Highly recommend if you enjoy a different emotional virus book. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. THANK YOU!

A Great Post-Apocalyptic Stand-Alone Novel

Several months ago I attempted to submit this review to Audible but it never posted. If you're reading this my re-submission has been successful.

Jack Hunt gives readers another great stand-alone post-apocalyptic novel with ‘The Aging’. The story follows Josh, his sister Lily and their estranged father Ryan as they strive for sanctuary from a deadly virus.

Some readers may find this review to be spoiler-y. I try not to give too much detail, but the spoiler-averse might want to steer clear.

After his mom dies from a virus that causes rapid aging and death in a matter of weeks, Josh and Lily are charged with finding their estranged father. Once together, the three race to Florida to board a boat headed for an island safe-haven in the Gulf of Mexico. Will they get there in time?

Hunt writes some of the best tension-building action scenes of the post-apoc genre. In this book, though, that takes a bit of a backseat to his wonderful story of family, particularly the father-son relationship between Ryan and Josh. Troubled-teen Josh is suddenly made responsible for younger sister Lily and then must accept help from a father he scarcely remembers. Ryan, for his part, doesn’t know how to be a proper father. He and Josh butt heads at every turn, not trusting each other yet. The reader watches their relationship grow strong as they attempt to survive the pandemic.

Hunt superbly delivers a coming-of-age tale, one of my absolute favorite tropes in ALL of fiction.
I truly love Hunt’s portrayal of Josh’s journey to adulthood through this unique landscape. Hunt’s use of a merry-go-round metaphor at the end is utterly moving. (I may have cried...OK, I did cry).

I will admit that the medical explanation of this virus is implausible (if not impossible), but I loved every other aspect of the book and happily suspend my disbelief here. Hunt employs a zombie-esque twist to the virus, creating a nail-bitingly superb suspense story.

This is my first time listening to Mike Piscitelli. His narration is very good. I felt his voice-acting suited the emotion of the story, so much so that I got a little teary-eyed with a few scenes.

I was given a free review copy of this audiobook, at my request, and this is my voluntary opinion of it.

Highly recommended.

Ticks most of the boxes

Interesting offering here. Relatively original concept, well crafted and performed with passion and solidly by Mike Piscitelli. I was drawn in by the story, but really, it was the characters ( as usual ) that really made the story. No doubt, pandemic-related stories are becoming all too common now that we are in year 2 of the event. Still, this one is unique and as enjoyable as yet another dystopian story can be. Recommended.

Interesting idea

I'm generally a fan of Jack Hunt's work. His survival tales tend to hit the right tropes for the genre and he generally tells an entertaining tale. Now while the idea behind The Aging in interesting, this one just happens to require a massive suspension of disbelief, especially in regards to the disease transmission / 'cure', with emphasis on that cure part, it just made no sense. I won't say more to prevent spoilers. I'd also say the ending was pretty much telegraphed fairly early on. So while the story was somewhat entertaining it was also completely forgettable. I could see the concept making an interesting Netflix series, but they'd definitely have to tighten up the 'rules' of the disease.

unique setting!

I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review.

I really enjoyed this story. The pandemic? our characters find themselves in is unique and well written. The author clearly spent his time thinking through the illness, stages and affect it would have on society. I find this can be easily overlooked in some stories but of course this is not the case with The Aging. Despite the book being fairly short, the author does a great job of not only fleshing out each character, but also the world in which they find themselves. I personally really enjoyed some of the tense scenes and once things are explained in more detail midway through, the underlying dread I found myself feeling for the characters at every step of their journey. By the end of the story, I found myself wanting to dive farther into the characters and this universe. This isn't to say the author did a bad job of wrapping things up, not at all. The author neatly ends this book in a satisfactory manner but I found the world he paints to be such an interesting one! This is my first introduction to this author, a good one at that! I'd just like to add that the narrator does a great job handling the different characters.

A different kind of lets grow old together

I was hooked from the synopsis of this book! It did not disappoint. It was so timely and what is happening in our world right now, yet so very different. It really showed the goodness in people and also brought out the evil when people were just looking out for themselves and their safety. It took a somewhat different approach and did not take place in a lot of major metropolitan areas which was nice change of pace. Our characters also met some interesting trouble along the way that differed from a lot of other similar novels in the genre. I enjoyed the family make up/drama in this book and it was great to see the transition from beginning to end of the family make up and some additions and subtractions as well. Of course, as in many books in the genre you have to remove yourself from reality for a bit but it is such a thrilling ride that I could not stop listening. The narration was strong in this book and really brought the words to life. I did feel that there could be some more tension in certain scenes but overall, the person who voiced the characters did a nice job and had a wide range of characters to provide voices for.** I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review from audiobook boom. This in no way affected my opinion of this work.**
