Resumen del Editor

Crafted by the creator of the beloved Mrs. Pollifax series, this little gem of a novel sparkles with romance and intrigue. The story whisks you to the enchanting rural abode known as Thale’s Folly, whose occupants are anything but fools. As you get to know these charming people and their magical home, a delicious scent of mystery infuses the fresh country air.

Andrew Thale is not exactly thrilled when his overbearing father sends him on an errand to assess the property inherited from an eccentric aunt. Andrew is intrigued though, when he finds the house fully occupied. Its odd and interesting residents have a calming effect on him, especially the beautiful young woman named Tarragon. But his arrival seems to have set a series of mysterious events into motion. Narrator John McDonough’s engaging performance lets you share in the excitement and camaraderie. Like Andrew Thale, you will want to linger in this mellow country haven.

Brings you in to care for each character

Loved the story and the narrator created such clarity of the characters I really cared about them. This is a refreshing change and an excellent read.

Such a good story

People were so real. Hated it when they left. I will miss them.
And George Guidell is my favorite narrator

Charming story with little twists and turns

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is not a violent or graphic novel. The plot and characters are interesting. Mr. McDonough's narration is wonderful. Overall, a nice, light listen with engaging characters and great narration.

Most satisfying tale

This is one of the best books I've listened to by Dorothy Gilman. I've been a fan of the Mrs. Pollifax series (read by Barbara Rosenblat) for the last year and decided to listen to others by Ms. Gilman. However, my enjoyment was greatly enhanced by the reading style of John McDonough!

What an intriguing story!

I found Ms. Gilman's stories via her works about Mrs. Polifax. I had no clue she wrote other works. I have found as much enjoyment in her other works ( including this special story) as those I adored with Mrs. Polifax.
The narration by John McDonough truly brought this story to life.
Thank you Ms. Gilman and Mr. John McDonough for the hours of pleasure.

My favorite Dorothy Gilman book!

This book is an old friend I’ve read many times and listened to many times. The narration is good and does the book justice.
Highly recommended!

Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves

What a wonderful tale of a home where outcasts could go, be loved and welcomed . . . until one day Aunt Harriet Thale died . . . leaving those sweet ones to fend for themselves. Five years later, Andrew Thale, sent by his too-busy father has come to access the property that he's inherited to see what it might bring on the market. To Andrew's surprise the house is occupied. The utilities long cut off, but with a thriving garden, the occupants are "making do" with what they have. It isn't long before Andrew is sucked into a way of life he never knew existed. I've listened to many of Dorothy Gilman's books in the Mrs. Polifax series, which I love, but this book tops them. Don't miss it.
