Texas Blue

The fifth book in the Whispering Mountain series, is the first book with the second generation. Duncan "Duck" McMurray is now a Texas Ranger and has decided to send three men to Whispering Mountain Ranch, three "gentlemen" picked to call on Duncan's cousins. When his friend Lewton Paterson, wanting a chance to married into a good family decides to take the place of one of the gentlemen callers. While Duncan goes to the Texas-Mexico border to fight cattle rustlers, not wanting to go with the men to Whispering Mountain to face his cousins.
Lewton soon finds out that the three women are just what he is looking for, but they are not liking for anyone like him. So he ends up spending his time working the ranch, the hardest work he has ever done; but he likes the work. In the end Lewton and a ranch-hand Em have to go to the border to try to save Duncan's life.
This is a great story that Jodi Thomas had written, it lives up to the rest of the stories in this series. Linda Stephens does a good job with the narration.

Great Story, terrible narration

This is one of the best stories in this series so far but the narration is awful. Stephens pauses at the wrong time in a sentence and puts emphasis in the wrong places. She also has long dramatic pauses and swallows a lot. She was better about not making everyone sound like crusty ole cowboys but honestly, if I hadn't already bought the series I would not buy anymore narrated by Stephens.

Shakespeare in 1875 Texas

Thomas writes a carefully crafted plot worthy of 12th Night. The McMurry clan continues 15 years later without a hitch in the giddy-up. Emily is a worthy heroine, except when she falls in tears over her dead horse in the middle of a deadly mission. Lewt is fun to read about, although I do wonder how he could be fooled. Thomas is very good at twisting plots and keeping readers engaged. It would be nice to have the same variety and creativity in her descriptions of love making. I'll take more spice please, but I do love reading all these characters!

Won't listen to this narrator again.

What did you like best about Texas Blue? What did you like least?

I enjoyed the continuation of the Whispering Mountain series. It would have been nice to include more of the characters from previous books. I found that narration extremely lacking and dramatic pauses way passed annoying. I won't listen to this narrator again. I'm disappointed that the same narrator did most of Jodi Thomas' books.

How could the performance have been better?

Speed up the narration and cut the dramatic pauses completely. It was often dead slow and difficult to listen to.
