In his youth, Tadzio was considered by many the most beautiful boy in the world. Now, at the age of 106, he recalls the story of his life; from 1912 Venice where he was pursued by the older man, Aschenbach, and the teen, Jashu; to WWII New York and the famous painter, Finnian, who fell for him; to 1950’s Hollywood and Caleb, the teen boy who captured Tadzio’s heart; and finally, to 2004 and the 13-year-old Colin, who inspires Tadzio’s final work of art.

I love Mark’s ability to tell a tale and have read almost everything he has written, however his last three books have been disappointing at best. I couldn’t wait for this one to be finished. It was such a far cry from his earlier work such as “Beautiful”, “The Soccer Field is Empty” and his very best work (IMHO) - “Three Months”. It makes me wonder if he has anything left to say. Tadzio’s story did tug at my heart a few times, for which I gave it two stars.
