Again, a surprisingly good fantasy novel.

The second book has really gone in depth to explain the land that Del is from. With a new culture, and new monsters. This book keeps getting better. Finally the dynamic and emotions between Tiger and Del progress to a very interesting finale.

great book except

why wouldn't he want the sword or acknowledge magic. makes no sense why go through all of the trouble to deny the sword why not learn the northern way if he is so great a sword dancer and so dedicated why wouldn't he want to know all styles that part makes no sense other than that great book

I enjoyed it

I loved the first book so quickly got this one and was eager to listen. And though this is a good book, I felt at some points it dragged.. I came to be more annoyed with Del with each chapter and found it hard to sympathize. But beyond that the narrator and the story was still very interesting (I love the detail on how the swords are made) and I will be getting the third book as soon as I get more credits.

Continuing the ride

Where does Sword-Singer rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

If you havent done so yet you should read my review of Sword Dancer first.
Before you listen to this one you should listen to that one first.
You dont have to but when your done with this one you will want to listen to Sword Dancer.

What did you like best about this story?

The deepining of Tiger and Dels Relationship.
The north.
Jivatmas

What does Stephen Bel Davies bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His enjoyment of the series.
He seemed kind of stiff reading Dancer.
Seems to be more relaxed with Singer.

Any additional comments?

Give it a try.
I dont think you will think it was a waste of a credit.

only very minor flaws

absolutely excellent. it did drone on a bit in a couple of places but this doesn't drop it to 4 stars.

Good

I like this book, but I was hoping that the sexist comments would cease in this book, but they didn’t. They weren’t is annoying as the first book but they were still there. Del and tiger definitely faced some interesting magical creatures in this book. They also came across some interesting people. They try to help a woman and her children, but they ended up being a little more than they expected. When Dell finally got to the place where she killed her teacher, there was a lot of surprises waiting there mostly for tiger. This book had a very interesting ending. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

meh

the story itself is passable, although it is very episodic with relatively little meat. the events in the book seem to lack and sense of progression. I never felt that one event led to another and most could have happened in any order.
the real crime is the narration. We are told again and again that the sand tiger is a large rough man of the desert, yet the voice is higher pitched than that of his lover Delilah. furthermore, the arch tone and said inflections make the voice better suited to Manhattan than a desert culture. throughout the book I was constantly jerked out of the narration as the words and the voice contradicted each other. for example, the book read .... I said flatly, while the narration used a lilting tone with an uptalk intonation.
between a mediocre plot and terrible narration, I am done with the series
