A murder mystery set in the segregated town of Dodge County, Texas in 1954. Swift Justice will appeal to fans of the movie Mississippi Burning and John Grisham's book, A Time to Kill, and tells the story of Leon Brooks, an educated black man, who comes under the wrath of the Texas KKK for initiating a voting drive.

The Klan, which is led by the Imperial Wizard Atwood Baker, who is called "Judge" because he is the Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court, cannot allow the voting drive to happen. His solution - lynch Leon Brooks and set an example.

But a mysterious person, who is disguised, comes to Leon's aide as the noose was around Leon's head. Leon can't tell whether the person is black or white. The person leaves as quickly as he or she arrived.

Within four days, numerous white people are murdered, and the Klan has no idea who's doing it. Sheriff Jefferson Mason, a tall, heavy-set man in his 50s and a local leader in the Klan as well, investigates the crime. The Klan's revised solution - kill more Negros and set the town on fire.

FBI Special Agent Roger Perry and his partner, Tom Hall, rush to Dodge County to solve the murders and bring down the Klan. The murders and racial tensions also bring in the national media. Dodge County is in disarray. Will it ever be the same? Will the people responsible for the crimes be brought to swift justice?

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audio book by the author, narrator or publisher for an unbiased review. The story was well thought out and interesting. Kept me guessing until the end. I would suggest that the author acquire the services of a good editor as there were some grammar errors and incorrect usage of words. The narrator was good, spoke clearly and had a pleasant voice in general.

I read the Kindle edition of this book back in January. I liked the premise of prejudice in the south back in the 50's and an anonymous vigilante. One of the first thing I observed was the use of the "f word," and ""m-f." I am hoping that further on they will be used judicially for effect. I guess it is possible that those terms may have been used in everyday conversation, but not sure.

There was plenty of suspense and enough twists to keep the listener fully engaged. I found myself wanting to keep listening to find out who the mystery person was.




The narration was well done.The characters were well portrayed. Michael Knight did stereotypical accents, but they went well with the storyline. The narration and sound effects added great enjoyment to the book.

I would like to see this author and narrator collaborate on other projects.

I was given this book at no cost in exchange for listening and giving my honest rating of the book.
The story line was alright and semi historical. The problem I had was with the narration. The inflections were wrong. The emotions that should have been conveyed by the narrator weren't there for me. I might have rated the book higher if it was conveyed differently. Very choppy with the characters using short sentences and identifying each speaker. Just couldn't rate it higher.

I had very high hopes for this book

This book just didn't do it for me. Between the vulgar language and the bad narration it just didn't work. The narrator did a good job when just reading the book, but when he started doing the character's voices it was just far to over done. Racism, Murder, Justice in the South

What made the experience of listening to Swift Justice the most enjoyable?

The premise of the story. Perspectives of White and Black interacting in the life and death grips of Racism. And the "outsiders", the Civil Rights style Jewish Lawyer who's first concern is the survival of the accused.

A strong point is the dialogue explaining the thoughts held by the participants.

What other book might you compare Swift Justice to and why?

"Mississippi Burning". The classic Portier movie "In the Heat of the Night" etc. come to my mind. Now I'm saying Swift Justice reminds me of these. Just remember these examples are Classics...

Have you listened to any of Michael Knight’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I feel that the "dialogue" is an important part of the story. Michael Knight has a fantastic voice, easy to understand, enjoyable to listen to. Where there is room for improvement is in the character voices - there are Southern regional, Ethnic and racial - Whites, Blacks, Jewish, etc. In my opinion, this must have been very challenging and there is room for improvement... Study and experience, similar to language learning. Learning a new language has always been difficult for me. Overall I rate Michael Knight's a strong performance though.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There are strong, blatant racist acts and thoughts portrayed by the characters, moving me to hate some of the characters with those values.

BE AWARE, THERE IS STRONG LANGUAGE THROUGHOUT THIS STORY. It's a gritty subject. Racial epitaphs, etc. If you are offended by such...

Despite any criticism on my part, this is a good story, a good listen. Thank you for the opportunity to review it!

surprising and interesting.

i was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher. this book was surprisingly very good. it did have some similarities to "a time to kill", but is very different at the same time. the story kept my interest throughout the whole thing. i did have to stop listening a few times due to the language used. i understand that the book is set in the south in the 1950's so the "n" word was used very frequently. however, i have never on my life heard it used in practically every sentence. other than that, the book was well worth my time.

A little disappointed....

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The language in the story made it a difficult read. I will give the narrator effort for trying, but the story just didn't click with me.
