This diary is a love letter written by a new mother named Suzanne for her baby son, Nicholas. As Katie reads this touching document, it becomes clear that the lover who has just left her is the husband and father in this young family. She reads on, filled with terror and hope, as she struggles to understand what has happened - and whether her new love has a prayer of surviving.

For those of you who might want to listen to this book, I recommend it highly. However; be prepared to hear and feel deep sadness.

This book seemed a satire, poking fun at the romance genre. Like drinking Aunt Jemima's pancake syrup straight out of the bottle, the story was sickeningly sweet. Highly predictable, it was easy to guess from the first pages how Suzanne's story would end. If I hear the words "beautiful" or "perfect" one more time, I might be sick.
I am curious as to why Mr. Patterson wrote this book. After all, he is a king of mystery/thrillers, and the other two books of his I've read were amazing. What was he trying to prove by writing a romance?
I listened to the audiobook version produced by Becky Ann Baker. She did a very nice job of narrating.
It might have made a great movie, but I won't be looking it up. I'm going back to what Patterson does best: keeping me on the edge of my seat, not stuck to it with sticky syrup.
Why did James Patterson write a romance novel?
