Resumen del Editor

“It’s probably nothing….”

Usually, when Victor Bayne is called upon to investigate a ghostly apparition, the “haunting” can be chalked up to a perfectly mundane cause. When he’s sent to check out some suspicious phenomena in small-town Iowa—and no one seems unduly alarmed—he’s hoping for more of a weekend getaway. Especially since he’s bringing along Jacob as his Stiff.

He ends up finding way more than he bargained for. Women undressing in public—with no memory of doing so. A car rental agent who knows far more than she should. And a shocking discovery they must keep to themselves at all costs.

Instead of merely supporting Vic, Jacob finds himself thrust into the driver’s seat, using a talent that’s clumsy and untested. And when Vic starts acting just as strange as the stripping women, all bets are off.

Can Vic and Jacob get a handle on the situation before FPMP National storms in and shuts them down for good?

PsyCop is an ongoing series filled with supernatural action and delightfully awkward humor–with a steady undercurrent of gay romance. It’s best read in order, so if you’re new to the series, start with PsyCop #1, Among the Living…and prepare for a hauntingly good listen.

Excellent next installment

Side note first, I should have relisten to the bk 12 and or read/listen to seasons before listening to this one. I heard several remarks from previous stories and I didn't remember them. I kept thinking, huh, when did that happen? So now I'm going back and starting bk 12 and Seasons.

As for this one, We have Vic and Jacob on an assignment, once they arrive the mayham begins.
This one really is only a V/J bk. Which is nice, how they work together. The strength and bond they have.

Gomez Pugh did another incredible job with the narration.

Jacob finds his groove

Highly recommend reading in order. This is the latest chapter in a series with interesting, believable characters and a compelling plot. Gomez Pugh is phenomenal at bringing the story to life.

Almost

Big fan of the series & Victor’s scowly curmudgeon persona, but in this book, he does mean and insensitive things, doesn’t acknowledge that he’s in the wrong, and offers no recompense, particularly to his colleague Carl. It’s not great. For those fans who failed to connect, I think this is why. The book starts off with Vic being a jerk, so if you don’t already love him, you’re not going to. If you do like him, you’re waiting in vain for him to fix his missteps, which he usually tries to do. Not so much, here.

While we all want his field trip to include Jacob, Vic suggests leaving Carl behind, “for Carl’s comfort”, which is Vic making decisions about Carl’s career without discussing it with Carl, in a way that limits Carl’s ability to do his job. He gets no apology for any of it. I expected him to at least chase down someone from Carl’s alma mater to get him a new pen. Because it wasn’t just a pen, and Vic shouldn’t still be violating his personal space.

The rest of the book was a decent tale, even though the naked dancing didn’t play into it as much as I would have expected. There was a lot of emphasis on Jacob’s talent, which was interesting, but like another reviewer said, Vic was more useless than usual which oddly coincided with him feeling somewhat more confident about his abilities. Being told from Vic’s POV when it’s mostly Jacob doing ghostbusting is still a good show of the author’s deft hand with these two. Their relationship is still strong & keeps growing.

potential minor spoiler look away if you want no detail: I like the worldbuilding that ghost tvs allow that doesn’t lock the characters into enormous abilities. That they all seem unique is a neat twist. And leaves room for more.
/end spoiler

Steam: Med-low? The guys are still newlyweds but I (writing this a week after listening I don’t recall details).

Narration: Please protect Gomez Pugh so he can continue to narrate JCP’s series. Even if Vic is being a jerk, GP totally gets the pacing & voicing right for the humor to work, even in those brief hits like “scowl the phone on”.

First time that a Psycop story hasn’t grabbed me

I didn’t really love the story this time. First time for me with a Psycop book not being completely enthralling. The whole different bodies thing was just too confusing I think. Maybe if this had been something visual I could have grasped it better. And Vic seemed pretty useless which is not normally the case so I guess that played in.

But as usual, Pugh does a great job with the narration and I did enjoy listening even if some of the story just didn’t grab me.

Jordan does it again!

Jordan does it again!

Psycop continues to be one of my very favorite series. The narration is spot on as usual with Gomez Pugh.

I highly recommend this entire series!

Good story. Good narration.

Every new addition to the Psycop series has new insight into the psychic world. I like how JCP keeps developing this world and the relationship between Victor and Jacob. The book didn't have quite the same emotional tension I am used to, but we readers needed a mundane psychic incident for Victor and Jacob to resolve for once. The revelations of the past couple books have been a bit disturbing. Of course even the most mundane psychic incidents can get a bit weird when Victor is involved.

Looking forward to the next book and the narration.

Wonderful! G. Pugh is Amazing!

So glad I waited for the audio, nobody is better than Gomez Pugh!

I enjoy Vic and Jacob working together... Vic is so patient with Jacob as he's discovering his talents. LOL, I could imagine him literally rolling his eyes as Jacob is explaining everything he's seeing. Too funny.

Super creepy episode (aka simply perfect).

Gives a whole other insight to 'Body Worlds'

As always, another well researched and entertaining experience with Vic and Jacob, my fav couple. Marriage seems to agree with them, but also nice to see them being human and having squabbles like many other married couples.
This was a good story to observe personal growth in Vic, as he was learning about give and take in a relationship as well as work, and picking his battles (or biting his tongue rather than his usual saying what he's thinking off the cuff lol).
Appreciated the storyline reintroducing an element I had thought had been resolved, and it made this one even more interesting for its inclusion.
Highly recommend and so glad it seems as if we will have the pleasure of more adventures with Vic and Jacob.. Awesome story!

Sing-songy narration

Castillo-Price’s dialog gets very sing-songy when the Victor Bayne character discusses his relationship with Jacob. Unfortunately, Gomez Pugh’s narration adopts the same character. Once the story gets moving in the latter parts, the sing-songieness subsides. I’ve enjoyed the series, more attention to the storylines might help. The book didn’t hold together as well as some of the others.
