Resumen del Editor

In an extraordinary blend of narrative history, personal recollection, and oral testimony, the author presents a sweeping history of Asian Americans.

He writes of the Chinese who laid tracks for the transcontinental railroad, of plantation laborers in the cane fields of Hawaii, and of "picture brides" marrying strangers in the hope of becoming part of the American dream. He tells stories of Japanese Americans behind the barbed wire of US internment camps during World War II, Hmong refugees tragically unable to adjust to Wisconsin's alien climate and culture, and Asian American students stigmatized by the stereotype of the "model minority".

This is a powerful and moving work that will resonate for all Americans, who together make up a nation of immigrants from other shores.

The parallels and contrasts of Asian experience in America

Thoroughly researched and detailed. This book maps the experiences of almost every Asian group that came to America in search of a better life. There are so many things I was never taught about the legal barriers to citizenship and rights for each group. Capping the research at the 1990s it's amazing how much solidarity played a role in today's society.

Eye opening to the way immigrants are treated

Well written historical tone. No anger. Lots of authentic stories about immigrants seeking a better life, parental heros, and injustice that started hundreds of years ago and sadly still goes on to affect minorities today. It's time (well past the time) to equally treat people as people no matter what they look like or where they come from.

EXCELLENT & IMFORMATIVE

This book gave tremendous insight into the Asian struggle to gain acceptance in America. A long and hard history that needs to be taught in JR high school and beyond.!!!!

Blessings,
Lonnie

The lies of Anglo-Europeans throughout history.

As a Vietnam Veteran I had two tours of Vietnam not knowing exactly what the war was all about until I matured to it. We were told it was to protect American democracy, what a crock of bull.
