Reseñas editoriales

Amy Minato is a normal Chicagoan until she turns away from that consumerist life style and moves to an Oregonian commune in Siesta Lane: A Cabin, No Running Water, and a Year Living Green. This audiobook tells her story of going green to find herself. Amy Rubinate performs this audiobook with even pacing. Her voice is contemplative and lyrical, reflecting Minato's language. This audiobook provides an interesting alternative to our standard lifestyle. Particularly for those looking to emulate Minato's choices, even if just in their imagination, this story is a worthwhile listen.

Resumen del Editor

A poet at heart, Amy Minato rejects her life of consumption in Chicago to go back to nature - specifically, to a commune in Oregon, where she rediscovers herself. She also cops occasionally to the pretentiousness of her mission, and laughs along with the listener at her attempts to be both environmentally friendly and sane, considering the fact that she’s moved in with a bunch of strangers in a remote locale.

Written with a grace and clarity of vision reminiscent of Annie Dillard’s prose, Siesta Lane is both a practical case study in living green, and the heartwarming story of a modern idealist who dives headfirst into the fray and discovers just what it takes to live a year unplugged. This is a must-listen for armchair adventurers and a perfect, engaging primer for anyone who wants to stride confidently into the new, environmentally-conscious 21st century.

Listen to sample first

It's a good enough book, but really saccharine. Which makes sense since the author is a poet and probably thinks a lot about words. My preference would have been a more direct writing style, but that's OK - it is her book :)'For SURE listen to the audio before you buy it - the narrator is super sweet sounding (not in a good way to me) and this just made the words sound more syrupy and in my opinion condescending. So if the sample annoys you - hours will drive you nuts! But If the story itself is what appeals to you - buy it to read.
