From beyond the grave came a cry for help she could not ignore. Reminiscent in style to Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird and to Betty Smith's A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Veronica's Grave is the story of a young girl whose mother vanishes one night. As small children, they watched their grandfather become president; just 12 years later they stood by their father's side when he took the same oath. They spent their college years being trailed by the Secret Service and chased by the paparazzi, with every teenage mistake making national headlines. But the tabloids didn't tell the whole story of these two young women forging their own identities under extraordinary circumstances.

It's a crazy idea: trying to name the phrases that make love and connection possible. But that's just what Kelly Corrigan has set out to do here. In her New York Times best-selling memoirs, Corrigan distilled our core relationships to their essences, showcasing a warm, easy storytelling style. Now, in Tell Me More, she's back with a deeply personal, unfailingly honest, and often hilarious examination of the essential phrases that turn the wheel of life.

Any additional comments?
I greatly enjoyed listening to this "short" memoir. The stories are set all over the country, from northeastern Ohio, where I live, to New York and Hollywood, which I can only imagine. The author's voice is warm and clear, and she draws you into her memories. She has worked with a wide variety of "Names" in the entertainment industry, but my favorite stories were the more personal ones: finding out dance night was cancelled but dancing anyway, her gift for teaching people to ice skate, the story of her first boyfriend. Lovely!Engaging memoir

If you could sum up Short Skirts and Shorter Stories in three words, what would they be?
No, I can't.However, I can take longer than 3 words and say that this is an enjoyable combination of stories and the author's thoughts on life, which I found the more compelling of the two. The stories were entertaining, but the musings were like aphorisms that were expanded and made literate. Whereas an aphorism can be tossed aside as cliche, these were palpable and often made me nostalgic. The stories had some laughs, but when I titled this "amusing musings" I did not mean amusing in a funny way, rather, I meant amusing as in arousing the senses and being evocative of time and place. That's what the musings were.
Would you recommend Short Skirts and Shorter Stories to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes.Have you listened to any of Lisa DeBenedictis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
The author, by virtue of her nearness to the material, brings her personality to the narration. I don't think this could have been achieved as well by an outside narrator.Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I did not break out in hives, if that's what you're asking.Any additional comments?
Just to clarify, I gave "Story" 3 stars because there isn't really a story here, and they made me give something. In a way, the author tells her story through her musings but there is no plot. That isn't the point of the book.Amusing Musings
