Resumen del Editor

In this previously unpublished manuscript, found in the Rothbard Archives, Rothbard deftly turns the tables on the supporters of big government and their mandate for control of research and development in all areas of the hard sciences. What R&D should be encouraged and funded, what inventions should be supported, and what areas should be given research grants, etc.? These decisions can be decided only by markets unburdened by government meddling and intervention. Rothbard shows that science best advances under the free market: The claims to the contrary of the centralizers are spurious. The best course of action for government is to get out of the way....

Overall captivating

Over all this was great read and while I disagree with much of the content, it was refreshing to see things from a different although outdated perspective on how useful the free market can be at dictating the development of technologies. Now if I am recalling correctly this was a thesis from the 1950's and does not stand true today. I will be giving this another read before I make my decision on the matter concrete, but will recommend to anyone trying to gain some insight into todays delimas and that desires a great undering of the "free market system".

Short, pragmatic read

A surprisingly thorough look at the mechanisms of technological discovery, innovation, and research. Rothbard shows effectively that the rightful source of funding for these endeavors is the free market, not government. Furthermore, he artfully illustrates that where there is no corresponding rise in offered wages, there can be no true shortage of scientists.
