I like dog stories

Easy listen. Nothing too graphic. Narration ok though a bit halting at times. Learn more about main characters in this series.

I love this writer and series. Anxious for the last 2 books to be released!

Story was good

I did not like the woman’s voice. Sound old and whiney Same voice as the woman in the other stories

Grateful that I got this book for free.Because I will not be listening to any more of this. i listened to the sample and read the reviews before I downloaded the book. A couple of the reviews blamed the narrator but I don't think it's as simple as that in my opinion?Maybe he's just as bored reading it? I thought there was a lot of overexplaining of unnecessary detail
In the narrative and the granddaughter definitely came across as a petulant whiny teenager. The storyline was a good idea, but it could have been told in half the amount of time and it lost my attention so many times but I didn't need to go back and relisten to the areas where my mind would wander, because
I knew I didn't miss anything.. just not my style of writing I guess?

Slow

I listened to this book and the one before. Most pages in these books are dedicated to searching for information that the characters never find. The characters are attacked often in the last book and a few times in this one. Unfortunately, both books are still slow because, although the characters move around a lot, they don’t actually find anything substantial to advance the plot. Characters just tell each other what readers / listeners already know or they argue about what readers / listeners already know or they internally ruminate on what readers/ listeners already know.

The characters are almost all flat, and even the ones who change, only change a little. They aren’t funny. They don’t flirt. They just walk around together and sometimes pray. I could criticize the reader because his intonation of the female characters is so whiny that it is annoying, and other times he either sounds monotone or has an over the top evil villain voice, but I think he was actually as bored as I was so it is hard to fault him.

Narration

It’s hard to focus on the story when the narration is so robotic. It sounded like AI. The female voice and tone was so whiny it was like nails on a chalkboard. Ugh. Sometimes the poor narration is tolerable if the story is strong. This one fell flat for some reason. A shame as I’ve somewhat enjoyed prior books in the series.

Not an endearing cast of characters

The story is okay, but it’s hard to figure out why the main characters are drawn to each other. The characters are undeveloped and the dialogue is flat. The female voice sounds like a petulant child.
