His survival rules kept them alive when the power went out.

Five days ago, Tyler and two strangers battled roving gangs and survived a perilous journey home to Montana after an electromagnetic pulse crippled the country. His brother, Corey fought off inmates to save the community of Whitefish from being destroyed. Now, as the town falls apart in the aftermath, the survivors must deal with conflict, looters, and defend their family from local danger.

How far would you go to protect those you love?

Trouble is brewing in the small mountain town of Whitefish, Montana, as old rivals seek vengeance, and Mayor Hudgens struggles to maintain order. With the riots and town fires raging out-of-control, Andy Ford must reunite his family if they want to stay alive. But how, when a tide of unpredictable violence, and a familiar face from the past threatens to keep them apart?

Rules are one thing, surviving the end of the world is another.

With the power grid down, and the collapse of government, loyalties will be tested and the Ford’s rules might not be enough to hold the town together. Who is the mysterious, Jude Lawson? Can Nate and Erika survive the unimaginable? And how will the decisions of the few affect the survival of many?

Rules of Conflict is Book Two in Survival Rules, a post-apocalyptic EMP thriller series following the Ford family and their community as they fight to survive after an EMP destroys the nation’s power grid.

erica is the worst and most unnecessary character ever. I know shes a vehicle for plot twists but shes too over the top jack.

I love a good post-apocalyptic survival series, particularly when it has a unique flavor. The Survival Rules Series stands out as a character-driven story in a post-apocalyptic setting. Rules of Conflict is the second in this series about a fractured family (father and two sons) forced to reunite after the world goes dark. Ironically, it was the father's fear of such an event -- and the brutal and abusive training he forced upon his sons to ensure they would be prepared -- that caused the fracture in the first place. The book has many of the typical elements of the genre, such as escaped criminals, hysterical (and unprepared) citizens, crashing planes, and the like. However, the characters' relationships remain the focus, as they attempt to navigate the new world with which they are suddenly faced.

The author developed the characters well and allows them to unfold naturally instead of telling the reader who they are or forcing their personalities through awkward dialogue. Like some other reviewers, I struggled to find anything remotely likeable about the main female character, particularly in the first book of the series, but she begins to come around in this book and becomes much more tolerable. As a character-focused tale, I understand why she is portrayed in this manner, and I see that she, like the others, grows and develops throughout the series. Otherwise, the author did a commendable job creating multi-faceted characters with clear and logical motivations. Even the deeply-flawed father has redeeming qualities.

Miles Meili does a very good job with the narration. My only criticism is that his voice for the younger brother seemed too young -- almost like a teenager -- when, in fact, he is in his mid 20's. But with so many male characters in the story, I understand that he needed to differentiate them in some way. Otherwise, the narration was on point.

I really enjoyed this book, and I finished it in only a few days. Although I received this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review, I purchased the first book of the series with my own credit. I enjoyed the first one enough to immediately start listening to this one, and I will purchase the third book, as well. I recommend the series if you enjoy apocalyptic fantasy, character fiction, action, and adventure.

Fun, fast-paced adventure
