Resumen del Editor

You all know the tale.

Star-crossed lovers meet; all they want is what they cannot have: each other.

It's a story as old as time - or is it? The headstrong Romero of the house of Montague holds nothing but contempt for the cowardly DeCapulets. Until, that is, he meets Juliet. Beautiful; deadly; her skill with a bow is matched by no other, and she fires an arrow straight through young Romero's heart.

Torn between their warring families and trapped by the waves of the undead crashing against the city walls, what chance do our young couple stand at having a future together?

You thought you knew the story of Romeo and Juliet? Think again in this satirical retelling of one of the world's most well-known love stories. Containing love, gore, and sarcasm, it's a story suitable for teens upwards, and should be enjoyed by adults 'of all ages'

Clever use of zombie curse

I have never actually read or seen a production of Romeo and Juliet, nor any of the various movie adaptions (except West Side Story...) I wanted to point out my ignorance of the Shakespeare story because it does color my perception of this. There are subtle things that I won't be able to pick up on because I don't know the other material. I also realized that I just didn't like the story very much. My reaction was generally, "Wow these teenagers are stupid."

That isn't the fault of author Fielding, though. I would say that this could appeal to Shakespeare fans, but coming at from a zombie and mash-up fan point of view like mine... the adaption works. In fact, the willingness to take the zombie bite/curse at the end makes much more sense than the poisoning they went through in the original. For that, I would say this work is especially clever, and that's why I give it 4 stars.

As to the audio performance, the narrator had an appropriately young sounding voice but she was also able to sound crisp and formal as one would expect for this type of work. I don't think a different voice actor of any gender could have done any better with the material. Well performed.

Bottom line: This is a perfect work for those who still enjoy zombie mash-ups (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) or like new things with a Shakespeare style (ex, William Shakespeare's Star Wars trilogy).

Fun twist on Romeo and Juliet

Is it Shakesphere? No. But then it does include Zombies. It is a quick listen with a good narrator to keep you engaged in the story. It's fun but not overly scholarly or cerebral - perfect for listening on a weekend run.

Zombies only help so much.

I picked this book out on a whim. I'm not a huge fan of the source material, but I hoped that zombies might make the story a bit more bearable. Unfortunately, Fielding couldn't change the story too much, but zombies sure did help. I was a bit disappointed that the story wasn't written as a play, but I won't hold that against Fielding. Shakespeare didn't make it easy to insert zombies into his plays.

Andrea Emmes did a great job narrating. Her pacing was pretty fast, which I loved, but I know some listeners don't like the fast narration.

Diverting

This was a good an interesting take on historical figures with a horror twist. The story is intact and the ill-fated couple doesn't change history but the addition of zombies is entertaining. This isn't as intricate or as seamlessly woven as the Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter (the book, NOT the movie which is horrible) but it was a good couple hours of diversion.

Andrea Emmes performs well and the narration enhances the fast pacing of the writing.

Romeo and Juliet, zombies. How can you possibly go wrong

Take the classic tale and add zombies. Well blended with the original while adding zombies. Well written well narrated. The classic tale is there for all to see yet made that much more entertaining by the addition of zombies...the Romero kept throwing me for a loop as I expected to hear Romeo...not sure if that's a copyright concern or a zombie nod to "Romero". Not Your Mother's Romeo and Juliet

What made the experience of listening to Romero and Juliet the most enjoyable?

I think the narrator really brings this to life. Even though I knew how it would end, I didn't know HOW it would end so I had to keep listening, even at the gym!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I dont think I can pick one, I liked them all ... except maybe Paris.

Have you listened to any of Andrea Emmes’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to others, she keeps getting better and better

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Not Your Mother's Romeo and Juliet
