Resumen del Editor

“We gotta get out of this place.” - Any kid in the ’80s trying to make it playing rock and roll.

Mix one dash of high school and two jiggers of teenage angst with a metric ton of heavy metal, and you have the recipe for the improbable wild ride of five kids with limited means and big dreams.

Seventeen-year-old Sean needs a lot of things: He needs his parents to stop hassling him. He needs his car to actually start. He needs his Jewfro to grow out into heavy metal hair. But most of all, he needs a band....

Without one, he isn’t sure that he’s ever going to make it out of this two-horse town.

He’s been trying to put a band together for as long as he can remember, but finding like-minded metalheads in rural America has been challenging. Finally, the stars align and a band is born.

It’s magic. But can these five talented metal kids keep things together long enough to play the show of a lifetime?

If you are a fan of heavy metal music and grew up in the 1980s (or just wished you had), this story is for you.

Great for any 80's lover

I grew up in the tail end of the Hair Band era, so some of this book really resonated with me. Brought back a lot of memories and had me reminiscing...just like the story! I am certain that if I read the book I would not have enjoyed it as much as I did listening to it. I found the narrating to really enhance the story and kept me enthralled. This is a definite good listen for anyone, but especially if you want to re-live your 80's hay days.

A little glimpse back in time to the 1980's

I really liked this book. It took me back to a time of teenage drama, rock bands and growing up a metal head. You get to follow along with 17 year old Sean and a group of friends who form a band. Then you get a front row seat to the daily life of the struggles of becoming a group and living that rockstar life. I liked how the author connected with the life lessons he learned along the way. One of my favorite insight passages was when bandmate Ron had been grounded before the big show. Here the author points out how unfair it is for stepparents and the kids. Each trying to fix something that is broken and putting up with the hurt and pain that goes with it. It moved something in me.
I enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator Brian Telestai did a great job of projecting the youthfulness of the story and the emotion that goes with it. I would recommend this audible book. It was easy to listen to and brought back the nostalgia of a past era. Happy Listening.

Most Excellent !!

This story took me right back to my heavy metal high school days, class of 85.
Brought back a lot of great memories from that era , especially all of the band drama that happened.
Reminded me of the struggles my musician friends faced then, as well as certain events that took place in adulthood.

A trip back in time

This was a great book! The author is quite humorous and grabs your attention instantly. I love that he is reminiscing about his glory days of being an 80’s Rock Band member, but I can’t help but feel sorry for the reason that he is reminiscing in the first place. This book is a great depiction of the 80’s and all things rock and roll. The narrator does an excellent job performing this book for his audience. The narrator is able to change tone and pitch and read with inflection. It helps greatly that the narrator is not monotone. I only wish that the narrator seemed more enthusiastic at parts, but in no way takes away from the book. I would definitely recommend this audible book to anyone seeking to reminisce about the glory days of rock and roll 80’s style.

Great story & narration

Although I was merely a twinkle in my mother’s eye during the 1980s, I found this audiobook to TRULY be storytelling.
The narration was excellent and the story was engaging.

I appreciated reliving Sean’s early teen years and found it funny how many times he said that bands get into playing “for the girls but stay for the music”. The joy they found playing together and all the drama leading up to them actually being on stage . . . It’s the love of the music!

If you’re interested in getting carried away into a story with captivating detail and the typical teenage angst we can all relate to, I highly recommend this audiobook.

My childhood revisited

I grew up during this time period and it gave me a lot of nostalgia. I loved the narrator's performance as it added an extra layer of entertainment to the story. It's a fantastic story about the trials and tribulations of a group of friends who attempt to become more than just a garage band. I loved the humor, the honesty, and the overall creativity of the story. It's the perfect accompaniment for when I had long drives shuttling my kids around. This is a fantastic story, and I enjoyed it immensely.

Brought back a lot of memories.

My only issue is the author is telling the story and not painting a mental picture. I feel you should write with all of your senses and let the reader build a picture in their minds .
Other than that I really enjoyed the story and after a while of listening I started to look forward to hearing the book . It was like hanging out with a friend back in the day hearing them shoot the 💩. I never played in anything bigger than a garage band , But I did have a 70 GTO that started when it wanted 😂 The book brought back so many good memories, that had long been forgotten.
Worth the read .

Rock & Roll never die!

Listening to the author's memoir was captivating. I felt his pain and joy during my lunch at work and must always remind myself not to chuckle or sigh out too loud in my office.

I thought I knew 80's music but this memoir opened my eyes to some classic numbers. Grab this one if you are a child of the 80's and you won't be disappointed. O, big hair and spandex are optional.
